i am against faction DDAs only because it introducing them will make it more likely/sooner that CCP nerfs drones.

That mostly.
Drones need buffing but not through faction DDA's.
Just fix medium and heavy drones and adjust the MWD situation to have a lower sig when returning, they'll still return in a perfect line from your target to you.
Fix their flight speed more then anything.

maybe eliminate drone mwd sig bloom entirely? This would be an easy change that would not buff sentries, significantly enhance their survivability in PVE without making it so you don't have to recall them, and probably not affect PVP very much.

I have thought about that, but I honestly don't have experience with drones in PvP.
They seem quite destructible in PvP once in orbit but I really have not done much serious PvP.
I have, but limited and a long time ago.

Edit: One should have to recall them tbh.
But it would also be nice if it wasn't an exercise in futility.
