Alright so ive tried the forum search and i havent found what im looking for.

Basically, im looking at the mael to fly while im working on Minmatar BS 5 and Large projectiles 5, and im trying to figure out how to fit the Maelstrom without T2 large projectiiles.

Edit: Apparently I can't spell for ****.

Here's the Mael I use for missions now and then. I doubt it's the best, but it's been working well for all of the missions I've used it on.

8 x guns of choice. I use meta 4 1200mm's.

x-l shield booster. tech 2 or high meta. (Or a faction one, if you can afford it)
4 rat specific hardeners. I'm using tech 2 thermal and kinetic atm.
After burner.
2x Gyros (high meta or tech 2)
2 x tracking enhancers (high meta or tech 2)
DCU 2


Rigs of choice. I'm using core extenders as this is also my incursion boat (with a different fit). you may wish to use cap controls and safeguards.

Few things:


  • Drop the DCU II and the Power Diagnostic - both arent needed - and put in another Gyro and TE.
  • Replace the Core Defense Cap Safeguard with a 3rd CCC, sustained tank will improve.
  • Use Meta 4 guns. Not everyone can afford faction, but at least upgrade to scouts. This is a mission ship, you won't have to replace it (often).

The reason it's fit as-is is that I like having the DC2 there, it gives me an extra 20k EHP and over 100 spike tank and 50 sustained tank. The PDS was there because I like having a decent amount of cap life and I had one laying around. The third CCC would give me sustained tank at the expense of cap life. And the reason I have Meta 3 guns instead of 4 is that I didn't feel like spending 24-32M on a set of guns, especially not when I only run a couple missions a month, when I'm bored.

It works well for me, especially since I can't stand grinding more than a couple missions now and then, but it was just to give the guy a starting point to work off of. Thanks for the advice though.

I don't think you are wrong either. Blink In fact I started missioning with a DCU as well.

In general it's best to overtank at the the start and later drop tank for DPS once you know the missions and have a feeling what's getting thrown at you. So don't take it as criticism but rather as fine-tuning to improve ISK/hour, which is what missions are about after all.

Not for me :p I only mission to kill some time when I'm bored, I have better ways of making ISK, lol. Other than that though, I understand completely and agree with you.

Oddly enough it works better as an AC ship, getting between things kinda takes a bit but I like 800mm better than 1200s, and both of the previous better than 1400s. Big arties means that you are forever waiting on your drones to kill leg humping angles, 1200s at least give you till about 25KM to kill them, and nothing small should be in that close really.

...and I started with a Domi mission boat, my drone skills are "well developed".

If you use an AC maelstrom for missions be sure to use tech 1 ammo :)

This thing eats ammo like crazy, I once made the mistake to aid some one in my pvp fit mael so I didn't even have to kill all and I spend like 5 mil on ammo alone thanks to faction ammo and even tech 2 ammo ups the cost quite a bit.

Personally though I would go for a 1400 fit and some light scouts to deal with frigs.

Also sustained tank is not really needed you be pulsing the X-L booster :)

If you are strictly looking for more cap CPR works better than PDS.

90% of of the time my posts are about something I actually find interesting and want to learn more about. Do not be alarmed.

Oh hell yeah. Even with Arty faction ammo is somewhat painful to use. 9000 isk every 10 seconds isn't nice. ;)

Yea i try to fly for as little cost as i can, only time that i have ever used faction ammo is lazorz and for pvp to get the most out of my ship

Honestly for low sp the mael shines with some shiny stuff. Really, go with

3x TE 2x Gyro
AB, invuln, 2 mission specifics.
and a Pith Large Shield Booster
whatever else you want

You will see much better results from 1200 over 1400 for a solo mission boat.

Lows
2x Gyros
3x TE

Mids

2x specific hardeners
1x Inv field II
1x heavy cap booster II / cap booster 800
1x Shield boost amp
1x Dead space large or X large booster

Highs

8x 1200 artys (if T1)

or

8x 800 rep arty (When you get T2 guns barrage ammo shines here over 1200's all day)

Rig CCC or CC + BA ( might have some PG issues with the BA on the 1200's Think you can for it with Eng V)
