For my 2c, ploughing a lot of work into creating content that is at best forced and gimmicky, at worst immersion breaking and tacky, is a waste of time. EVE focuses less on created content with developers controlling your experience ("themepark" MMO) and more on providing tools to create content with and allowing you to control your own experience ("sandbox" MMO).

Agree 100%. Speaking of Holiday themed events, shameless plug for Nightmare in New Eden (http://nightmareinneweden.blogspot.ca/). It has everything you want but player generated ;-)

Only if it's a Halloween theme, and every ship gets a Blood Raider paint job as part of the event.

Why we dont give presents to others? Sharing is caring, lets just give every new player something what he could lose in a fight with older players.

Because it's hilarious!

I aggree though, we should totally celebrate halloween. When you log in you pick a theme:

- Sansha Spikes. Regardless of what you're flying, you get spikes. If you're flying a Sansha ship, you get more spikes and your spikes get spikes.
- Bloodjob. So that's where all those Janitors and Homeless went... and yes, if you happen to be in a blood raider ship it's now all red. Maybe nail some corpses to the hull too?
- Seafood disaster. Your ship gets those little animated crab-like things Rogue Drones have.
- Frankenboat. Your ship instantly gains a Minmatar paintjob. Minmatar ships get extra wingy bits.

There, leave the rest to the players, I can already imagine some bizzarre game of "ISK or misl" going on.

(Oh, and depending on what you selected your portrait gets re-rendered with fake cyborg stuff, dracula cape, insect antennae or frankenstein's monster screws respectively.)

...okay, admit it: this does sound goofy enough to swing for a day. Because in a reality where random violence is daily 9-to-5, random violence spiced up with tacky halloween themes somehow becomes more amusing.

To be honest, I'd rather celebrate Burn Jita Day than X-mas.. having 'RL Events' being stuffed into MMO's while it can be amusing in themepark MMO's, or annoying/boring, they do not fit the style of Eve.

if you want a Chrismas event, do it yourself, celebrate it, get some snowballs and shoot people with them etc.

EVE Holiday Expansion

The Amar ruse a religious holiday as an excuse to go apeshit and invade the Minmatar. There are mass genocide, masscres, and people getting enslaved left and right. Eager to get in on the action, the Gallente and Caldari decide now is an awesome time to nuke the ever loving crap out of each other. The jove decide it's a good idea to step in and try to stop this lunacy but only wind up spreading their horrible disease to everyone dooming the entire galaxy and ushering in a new dark age.

Happy Holidays!

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

First off, im against the idea of official Christmas expansions in EVE.

The reason for this is that i have played other games that have events like this (WOW and TSW) and even tho the idea of the events are fun it normally ends up like this. "Hey guys! Sorry couldent get on yesterday because of RL, is there and groups for the event?" *response* "Sorry we finished them yesterday, but look for a group in (whatever channel or town used in the game)".
The person who dident get to to it with their guild/cabal ends up joining a random group (groups being harder to find the more days go by) and meet up with complete strangers, and instead of having fun with the event it ends up as a "Please just make this be over soon, this group is so awful, wish i could just leave but then i might not get the rewards".
In simple words..Instead of having fun with the event as originally intended, it becomes a strain and the only reason you do it because you want the achievement.

However, this does not mean that im against Christmas events in EVE! The difference is that in EVE you have to make them your self.
As an example, for the corp we always have Secret Santa (or Secret Sansha Lol ). People choose if they want to participate, a price limit is set (and no one actually follows it), and a random person is picked to run the whole thing every year. Its a small thing, but people have a lot of fun with it, trying to find the perfect gifts, sometimes funny, sometimes useful, sometimes more off the mark then what you get from that relative you havent seen for 10 years Lol
Its a way for the corp members to celebrate Christmas with each other, without the pressure of "having" to do it because there is some title you can get from it, and it provides a challenge and an chance to get to know the corp members you normally dont talk that much with (different timezones and so on).

But why stop there! You can get even more creative.
Using last year as an example.
Starting the whole thing with a pre scheduled mining operation in our home system at the time, inviting everyone to come in whatever ship that could fit a mining laser. Randomly "Santa" comes into the belt in a t1 frig(someone who was not a member of the corp) and steals some of the ore from the cans.
A corp mail is quickly sent out with instructions on the "game" but i will write the short version here.
Everyone was asked to dock up, and get a ship from he corp hangar. The ships were Rookie ships which was already fitted with very basic mods. The participants were then split into teams;

Team Jack Skellington
Team Grinch
Team Nutcracker
Team Robot Santa Claus

The goal was for the members to "kill Santa" who had stolen their stuff because they had been "naughty", but the teams were not allowed to fire at Santa (who could only be agressed while in a belt mining) while there was another team member in the belt. After hand as people went down they went back to the HQ system and got a new rookie ship. And obviously it was a lot more fun to blow up the other corp members then Santa so Santa got to see some nice explosions before he finally went down Blink
The whole thing was a lot of fun, and a LOT of rookie ships died that day Lol

But the best thing is that it was an actual CORP event, not with strangers and people you will never see again.
Of course people leave the corp and so on, but things like that is still a lot more memorable then that random group you did an instance with. It might take some time to get set up, but believe me, its worth it when people are still talking about it a year later, and people are looking forward to the events months before Christmas.
Thats when you know they really do appreciate what you do Smile

I cant believe Im the first one to point out he said E.V.E. instead of EVE.

...Why?

Well, maybe it's up to us players to organize a nice holiday event. Have Sansha Claus visit everyone.

Get a nightmare + nine Phantasms, ride through space and shoot absolutely everyone in the face, for instance. And sing something along the lines of :

"You better get safe,
You better log out,
Better insure your crap and really watch out
Sansha Claus is coming to town!
He's making a list,
And checking it twice,
But doesn't give a damn who's been naughty or nice,
Sansha Claus is coming to town!
He locks you when you're cloaking,
He locks you when you're docked,
And his lasers light up red'n'white,
So you better get safe,
And better log out,
Better insure your crap and really watch out,
Sansha Claus is coming to town!"

I resubbed just to like this. Also, I'll fly a NM or a Phantasm in this fleet if someone wants to put it together.
