Hi

Elsewhere, somone who had briefly tried to play EVE once, and was sort of interested in trying it again, asked me how long he'd have to train, starting from scratch, to be able to fly decent Assault Frigate, such as the Hawk.

I was unsure, but told him probably 2-5 months. Later I narrowed it down to 2-3 months. How wrong is my guesstimate?

Have you discovered EVEmon yet?

The estimate will vary as it is subjective question.

Sit in the ship? 5d each for Mechanic 5 and Enge 5, 10d for Frig 5. So, about 20-25d total.

Actually use the ship halfway decently? Atleast that much again to get all the support and weapons skills up to atleast 3-4.

So, I would say 2-3 months is reasonable for a younger player who's working towards it and training the right skills, more if there are too many detours.
