[WHIST] Stillwater Public Relations - Speak to the monkey instead of the organ grinder

Strange phrase. Anyway.

In our efforts to further our legitimate business interests and to make ourselves more accessible, a small rearrangement has promoted one Laria Raven (me!) to the position of Tribunus.(1)

This means that, should you wish to discuss issues, business proposals, or make complaints you may direct them at one of the following three people:

James Syagrius
Laria Raven
Leopold Caine

...and hopefully receive similar results in terms of content, if not in terms of style or presentation. Most of my sentences follow on from one another, for example.

We remain committed to a brighter future for the cluster, and work for an end to the hypocrisy and the exclusionary monopolies of power that have led to the continual wars that so blight our shining New Eden.

I apologise to those who have no interest in what is essentially a public service announcement and who yet, for unfathomable reasons, have continued to read thus far.

Tribunus Laria Zara Raven

(1) Read, public relations monkey

Congratulations on your promotion Ms. Raven, even if it is as hollow as it seems.

Here's to hoping that you too can invoke Caine's law with ruthless efficiency when it is so required.

It's not hollow! It's very exciting! I'm just downplaying it for comic effect.

Apparently, not entirely successfully.

What do you think Caine's Law is?

I believe the current definition is "even if you were there and saw it happen it didn't happen unless I said it happened".

So where does "if things are boring, pull a slave girl on camera to spice it up a little" go?

I'm sure you're all aware that there are, on occasions, in any political entity or existence, times where events cannot be officially acknowledged. Any event spawns a multiple number of interpretations, each of them at variance in some way - whether it be by emphasis or detail, whether intentional or accidental. It is natural and right to want to control the interpretation for the historical record, surely?

As for the other thing, it is unfortunate that moral standards vary across the cluster, and I apologise for the offence caused by that fluctuation in standards. At times, perhaps, the combination of venue and action was impolitic.

Congratulations on your promotion (?), Ms. Raven.

If I may, I wonder; how is Stillwater's concern with power monopolies not merely a self-interested desire to co-opt the power structure? It's dressed in very nicely anarchic wording-- for those who like that sort of thing --but I've yet to see anything that would put Stillwater's good works on the level of, say, the Sisters, or the Society for Conscious Thought.

We do not claim to be a purely benevolent organisation like the Sisters Of Eve.

We have undertaken humanitarian actions in the past. We will do so again in the future, but that is not the purpose or intent of the corporation or, to the best of my understanding, that of any groups we may have a wider affiliation to.

One can work towards a better tomorrow while taking unfortunate choices that are necessary today. Surely everybody has that balance to deal with?

Alas, I do not have the fortune to have my name on the corporation.

But your compliment is accepted, thank you.

Considering Stillwater's reputation amongst the capsuleer community I think we can safely say that wasn't a compliment, merely an observation.

Could we agree that some parts of that reputation, whatever it is, might be deserved, and some might not be?

And that a step towards rectifying the latter part, and attempting to prevent more of the former, might be appointing a new public relations person?

The best step that you could possibly take towards improving your corporate reputation is venting Leopold Caine's head permanently and replacing him with someone at the very least more personable, if not honest.

Until that time appointing a new corporate mouthpiece is really a futile effort as, as I'm sure you're going to find out in the not so distant future, precedent has been set in stone.

Such a pity.

Still, I wish you joy in your transparent arboreal abode, with your collection of geological projectiles.

I've heard that you're a group of slavers, drug dealers, and pirates. Any truth to that rumor?
