Best bet would be how the forum has a nasty tendency of losing out the original post in some threads for unknown reasons.

I think it has to do with the draft saving mechanism — it probably creates a temporary thread to put the post in once you actually submit it, and if someone else spots that thread before that (or if you nuke the draft), you end up with an empty thread or a thread where someone other than the OP has the first post.

You can occasionally see it with existing threads as well: they say that there's a new post with a different last poster than there was a minute ago, but once you open the last page of the thread, it hasn't actually changed (yet).

So somewhere in the code, there's an update for thread listings and last poster info that jumps the gun and starts committing data before the poster has actually submitted anything.
