Ok I take off for two weeks to go to Burning Man 2013 and now there is more threads and TOS changes and in all of this chaff, there is no clear signal. Can anyone summarize what the (expletive) happened? Don't need the foxNews talking head version... just a CNN Headline News version.

Basically the GMs have taken it upon themselves to reword/reinterpret the TOS to include provisions against impersonating or falsely representing another character, corporation, alliance, or "group". Among other things this causes difficulty when players try to scam by claiming that they're alts of a more reputable character. The situation has been made worse by the GMs trying to "clarify" that even claiming to be an alt of another character, even if true, is considered impersonation under this clause and is equally punishable.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

Nothing has changed you can scam all you want.. Don't let these idiots tell you otherwise.. The GM said it himself that nothing has changed the wording was done for legality **** to button up some loop holes some might try.

What this guy said. Its just a bunch of entitled whiners trying to get worked up over nothing. Its the same as it always was, just worded differently.

I swear even since incarna the entire eve gaming population is like a fat cheetoh dust covered lynch mob running around looking for a witch to burn at the stake.

CCP makes one mistake (Captains crapper) and apologises for it, eve players think every minor issue since then is something they should all cry together over.

I don't think that is it unreasonable to be concerned with such changes. When CCP launched Incarna they proved that they were capable to going bat-crap insane and not realising it. The aftermath of that event is that the community is less trusting of their judgement.

In hindsight my post should have had more psssshhhh

So basically it's the usual stuff whenever CCP makes any changes to just about anything having to do with EVE

They said nothing changed but that's not really the case. A GM specifically clarified that, say, recruitment scamming for Goons when you're not a goon was no longer allowed. Stuff like that has been going on forever and I have never heard of someone catching a ban for it. Impersonating a player, say making Doris Dents. would always have caught you a forced rename, but saying you're an alt of Mittani give me roles or whatever is a scam as old as EVE and has never been problematic before.

So, OP can't glean enough info from "thousands" of already locked duplicate threads about this.....

....and just had to start another duplicate thread that will be indeed locked as well..

Nah. There's something probably bannable about doing that.

Yup.

If one hasn't truly done anything 'wrong', and has nothing at all to hide, why be so panicked and loud ? Hmmmm ?

that argument is so ********. i had just to log in and reply to this.

i bet you are also one of that people that like that the NSA and other spying organisations are breaking human rights worldwide by collecting personal information and monitoring everything "because i have nothing to hide"

it is not YOU that is deciding what is right or not, it is the organisation/ the government and if they feel that you are doing bad they now have all informations of you and can punish you and suddenly the things you thought are not wrong are getting punished. same applies now to the change of the tos.
they said they decide from case to case and as posting gm responses is forbidden, there is no transparency for you as a user and you cant know ever for sure if what you do is right or not.

so think next time before you post such bullshit

You're wrong. CCP says there's no worries because they're not actively enforcing the TOS. But the TOS now, without question, prohibits that type of game play. What people are debating is having the TOS, like the sword of Damocles, hanging over their heads and left at the whim of GM mood and opinion to be interpreted.

That there are people who would accept the current situation as a "no worries" situation leaves the rest of us to wonder if they've been drinking the CCP koolaid.

Considering what has been said by GMs that "we've had this policy for a long time, it's just never been in the TOS", and that it is now in TOS only means one thing: CCP is covering its butt legally for the mass bans they're about to hand out.

I'm sorry you and people like you can't see this for what it is. Yes, the TOS has a termination of service for any reason clause. But there is precedent already set in game with a long history of this type of game play being allowed. There's obviously been a discussion at CCP about this issue and they felt the need to add this specific prohibition of game play. They're worried that if they ban the wrong person or group of people there could be legal issues. So, we get the new TOS verbiage which now specifically prohibits this long standing game play. It's obvious to me, they plan to curtail this type of game play regardless of GM assurances since a post by a CCP employee is not CCP policy. The TOS is.

Don't ban me, bro!
