It matters because long after we're gone that disc will probably still exist, some day hundreds of thousands of years from now when humanity has long since passed some civilization may discover that disc and they will know that we existed.

Think on that for a moment, the music of Mozart and Beethoven and many other artists contained on that disc may outlive us and this planet, and some day a child from another world might hear them for the first time.

How completely awe inspiring is that?
