A medical research assistant was finishing up his work in a Caldari medical research and development outpost. The medical assistant went to the nearby terminal to close down the laboratory. Due to a bug in the software, the computer initiated a reset of all test storage areas.
Under normal circumstances the assistant would not be conducting the shutdown of systems. But today the supervisor was away on business.

In one of the storage areas was a live sample of the latest secret project. 25,000,000 genetically restructured mosquitoes. They are each 3 inches long, with an enlarged and hardened abdomen. A larger needle appendage on the head, and the ability to suck blood, as well as Their goal is to rapidly conduct blood transfusions on wounded infantry.
The master goal was to have each equipped with a micro-implant. The micro implant stimulated the brain in order to “steer” the unit toward the recipient.

When a soldier was marked as “wounded” and needed an emergency transfusion, these would be “deployed” flying in a massive swarm to go out and “emergency-pump” the soldier with blood until they could receive further attention.
Unfortunately 25,000,000 of these “Transfer-Mosquitoes” were stored in the very last storage area. Only 2 people knew that they had been placed there. Everyone else just thinks that they have been used to store medical tape for the last 4 and a half months.

During the systems reset, the doors open, wait 30 seconds and then close again. Sure enough, 413 milliseconds after the systems reset began, the door to storage bay 9 swiftly slid open with a hiss.
All 25,000,000 units erupted from the bay. Flying in a tightly coordinated swarm. They sounded like a million titan class capacitors all being powered up at the same time.

Regrettably their behavior had not been perfected yet. They raced towards the nearest person. The research assistant. Completely engulfing him. He screamed as a thousand needle like appendages forced themselves into his skin. Within seconds over 98% of his blood was removed.

Many of the units were now fist sized and filled with blood. Bouncing off of each other in an uncontrolled frenzy. Some of them popped. Leaving large puddles of blood on the ground. On the way down the blobs of blood hit many of the other units. Their wings sent bullet sized drops of blood flying in all directions.

For a split second, it looked as If they were a flying cloud of misting blood.
Security and medical response detected “dangerous activity” in the area and sent first responders.
The transfer mosquitoes began “phase 2” of their operation. All of the full ones went straight for the new people that entered the area. Completely swarming one of the first responders, they pumped him full of the research assistant’s blood.
When they left him, he lay on the floor. Bloated with all of the excess blood. His face and mouth rapidly swelling due to the anaphylactic shock caused by being rapidly pumped full of the wrong blood type.

For the next hour they flew around and sucked and pumped people full of each other’s blood. And at one point, water from the fountain in the lobby.
