Why are people such risk averse pansies when it comes to fleeting with neutrals?

As one of the guys who sets standings for my corporation I can tell you very heartilly that if someone is red and asks to join your fleet, then you should probably understand that there is a -reason he is red-.

Lets refer back two posts for some context

Fleet members don't appear on most usual overview regardless of standings.
You should have a tab that shows all players too.

Yeah, because I'm going to switch to my special overview tab (logi) that DOES show blues... so I can shoot the blues the red guy in my fleet is broadcasting as primary Roll

You're a special kind of special.

And you're a ******* idiot. I never said ANYTHING about fleeting with reds to shoot blues (though that would be fun), I meant fleeting with neuts/reds to shoot OTHER neuts and reds, there's a difference.

And reds are just set red by your corp/alliance leader in many cases. In reality you have no quarrel with them.

I'm a CEO. Our members do have a quarrel with them, because that's exactly what they signed up for. I will not have people's loyalty questioned by tolerating reds in our fleets. This is indeed a matter of NBSI principle. That doesn't mean you can't ever have a couple of neuts in the fleet, but without arranging proper standings first you simply cannot guarantee that no-one in your 100+ NBSI group will refrain from shooting them. It's messy and unnecassary.

I wish to stress that Blue status does not equal friendship or even respect, they merely represent the rules of engagement as set forth by the entity you explicitly opted into yourself. Standings make PVP relevant, they create the context for meaningfull conflict between larger entities. If being a part of larger engagements is what a person desires, he should have no personal issues adhering to the standings that create the context for these engagements in the first place. Red spike, oh noes!!! Big smile

I resent the idea that keeping to (NBSI) Alliance standings is a dumb herd mentality. It isn't about risk aversion, it isn't about blind (mis)trust or the comfort of being told who to shoot. It's a small piece of personal authority you exchange for other options, such as getting on more organized fleets with actual objectives you can benefit from as an individual. It's a small sacrifice to make larger scale PVP a lot more manageable and fun. In the end, players control what they opt into themselves anyway.

You should have a tab that shows all players incase someone awoxes you.
Also, it's very valuable in determining how many people you have on your side left in the fight.

Are people really THIS afraid of awoxers that they'd literally just stay docked spinning their ship instead of letting reds and neutrals join them for small gang roams?

I can understand the reasoning behind a secret alliance op involving structures, but why on earth are people so scared to let strangers in their small gang pvp roams? If they awox, they know in future not to trust them so the damage is only limited.
Furthermore, you can even check their killboards to get a pretty good idea of whether they break fleet etiquette.

Seriously, if you OCCASIONALLY lose a ship to an awoxer who claimed to honor fleet agreements, who cares?
You can still afford 50 more.

Personally I think people are way too uptight about it.

I wouldn't fleet my mother, Or my wife I'd freaking pod her first just to make sure she was no threat. Better safe than sorry is the saying.

+1 Inxentas

Shouldn't really need explaining.

The number one reason so few people fleet up is because everyone is sitting around waiting for someone else to form, and hence FC, the fleet. Offer a fleet, and people will happily join. But very few people will form their own and put up an advert.

I suggest being active in the various chat channels. There is one for virtually every Eve activity. You are likely to find people there that are serious about working together rather than awoxing like you expect with local chat spam.

The form fleet/advertise tool is very limited though. Try it and you'll see.

Of course if it were more open, it would be gank city.

So this is yet another installment of why you can't have anything nice because people suck.

once in 2012 in Delve i was sitting on 319- undock in my Thanatos. There was lots of blues/neutrals/reds around. Some people invited me to fleet. I accepted it (why not?). And then - my ship started to warp to somewhere. Shocked

Some funny guys from PL wanted to fleet-warp me out of undock Lol Guess what for they wanted to do it? Blink

While we are at it, why don't we just:

1. blue everybody so we can all get along and be safe and comfortable - (we don't like fights unless we are guaranteed a win!)

2. go on huge blobby roams through Null and look for the one or two neuts left in all of Sov space that didn't fleet/blue-up - (see #1)

3. complain about how we can't find anything to shoot at - (See GD)

4. wonder why we can't find anything to shoot at - (See GD)

OH....WAIT. nevermind.

EDIT: You need SOMETHING to shoot at. Don't try to make everybody be friends, or expect them to be.
