Why do so many people post with alts?

Every time I see a post that will spark some form of debate its usually from a person in an npc corp a few days old. Hell, even some of the replies are others with alts. Do people need a reason to be scared? Is it because they secretly want to be part of the people they are bad mouthing and don't want anything tying then to it in the future? Inb4nerfaltsonforums.

We alts have a secret club with the finest booze and caviar and stuff, that's why. Next question?

Because there are unstable people in EVE (and most other online games) who will stalk/harrass other players over internet spaceship pixel disagreements or for the lulz.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

Some do not want their personal views to affect their corporation and/or alliance.

But it's mainly done because it's easier to be brazen and anonymous with an alt. Kinda hard to be held responsible for forum shenanigans if no one knows who you are.

Because some people will hunt you down for what you've said on forum.. this is my main (and only character) but you can understand why some do it if they are in semi important positions or don't want to deal with the consequences.

I disagree

I post with an alt because the corporation my main lives in likes to maintain a reputation, which can be an important thing in EVE.

This alt gives me the freedom to do and say what I want without potentially damaging the game experience for my corpmates.

There is the rumor that some corps /Alliances frown upon their members posting publicly on these forums, since they apparently only want their officially endorsed opinions to be posted.
I am still not sure if this is true and I don't know a single corp that would do such a thing- but then again, if those people are silenced, how would I ever hear of them?

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Why do so many people post threads asking why so many people post with alts?

It allows them EVE-anonymity. There are a few things I would like to call it, but I will refrain. It's very rare that I feel the need for retribution of any kind at all, but rather than just simple retribution, there is one forum-goer I would like to make suffer in EVE tremendously for some very insensitive remarks made that go beyond EVE itself. Not in the real world, though, this is not a threat, although the comments made pertained to real-world issues.

In any case, I have an alt, but I post with my main. Always have. Got a 600 mil bounty for smack talk on a drone whine thread last year after the Retribution patch, which I consider something of a trophy even though it has since dwindled somewhat. Not concerned. Bring it on. Don't like what I have to say? I'm in Inari. Come get me. Twisted

Hey, this thread again.

Dammit CCP, fix the search button! People that really want to know the answer to repetitive questions should have the option to search these things out.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

When formulating a reply, I'm quite certain this is the last question I would ask myself.

There's real reasons why your Eve character doesn't do /dance.

In my case, I made this alt to facilitate the purchase of a couple high value items on the forums. If you're going to be buying some Chelm Tach's for your mission boat, it's much better that no one know who you are...

Then I just decided to keep using him. I used to post with my main all the time.

Some (most?) corps are driven by overly paranoid CEOs and people have to use alts for forums to avoid being kicked from such corps (which may be very profitable to be in them - such as WH corps).

Also for shiptoasting and creating hype using multiple accounts.
