The only prob I see with this is at the end he clearly states they don't have permission to publish it, yet they do anyway.

Well considering your corp, you would say that. At least over here, recording of a conversation has to be agreed before it's allowed to be published, and CCP have banned people for taking their abuse out of game, which this is.

In many US states, two party consent is required to record a conversation. In just about all, and many other countries the rules for publishing are even more strict.

I agree. This is the salient point. In New Eden, we prey on the weak—their lack of military might, their insufficient funds, their lesser cunning or simple naivete—and walk away smiling. This is the fundamental mechanic of the game, and we take pleasure in the victories we gain by means of it. But we do not take this practice away with us when we leave Tranquility. To do so means to overstep an ethical boundary. Just as we do not abuse beggars on the street, or maltreat the sick and injured for personal gain or for the lulz, so we do not exploit someone's psychological weaknesses, his gullibility or suggestibility, in order to damage him in real life. There is a misapprehension on the part of some contributors to this thread that just because we can take a naive and foolish player and make him do things that humiliate him IRL, in order to hurt him, we should. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to play a game, and although it is not a question of rules being violated or the EULA being disregarded, it is morally culpable.

Disagree. I would argue this incident provided a valuable life lesson to carbuilder. It makes sense that damaging ones own reputation in front of his family is quite low for any human being. However, this individual allowed it when he decided to put his gameplay on exhibit in front of his family. It is in the same vein as someone who gambles, loses it all, and has to come back and look his family in the eye. Only, this time it was done with monopoly money instead of real life money. In that regard you can say that Erotica1 and fellow members of the Order as doing this guy a favor. A favor of showing him his gullibility before he actually physically damages his homestead.

Also scamming is not considered abuse, so even if it is out of game it is still legal

Just because this stuff happens all the time in other video games and this guy was willing to do just about anything for video game it doesnt escape the fact that these guys are douches.

Don't get me wrong the scammed fella had it coming to him, but these guys just kept going on with it to the point of even involving the guy's family. The scammed dude shouldn't be compensated by any means or even sympathized, but **** guys I thought we were grown up adults who just wanted to fly in space for fun. Not sadistic ***holes...
