AlienFx not doing anything?

When I load up eve it resets my Fx to the default blue - but no in game interactions do anything. It just remains solid blue all the time. I believe, although I can't find it anywhere, it is supposed to flash in combat etc, but it does nothing. The in game tick box for it is on, and the AlienFx program is set to receive 3rd party access. Any help?
