replacing losses getting shot down in lowsec

The capacity to replace losses, and the audacity to lose ships to others players in lowsec, is exactly what lowsec PVP corps would be looking for. Not many lowsec groups are uber-paranoid with their recruitment, and many will take on newbies with little SP, simply because they have the right attitude and are pleasant individuals. Sounds a bit like you had a bad streak looking for interesting corps, but if you keep at it I'm sure you will find one that suits your playstyle, and accepts newbies despite of what their official policies may say.

Hey there,

I am new as well, 2 weeks in.

Here is what I did, from the start till now.

I did all my career paths, started reading up on everything EVE (well, alot at least, including player provided links and google-wealth).
My reading and Q&A threads lead me towards the Sisters of EVE epic arc and did that. Good fun, and some challenging fights at the end to undertake solo.

I continued with a few missions for a Gallente Agent and put some more ISK in my pockets. Not a great deal, but enough to push me further forward.

* I made a secondary account during this time, after asking around how useful one would be.
She mines, trains for the necessary skills for a Noctis and later on, Transport Ships.
A moneymaker and support account so to speak.

I made a fair few friends in the meantime and asked them where would be a good place to begin getting my feet wet., PVP wise.

That caused me to sign up for Faction Warfare yesterday and I captured my first two 'points' yesterday, dwelling solo in lowsec.
The loyalty points you gain from participating in Faction Warfare, should you be curious, can be traded in for goodies you can either sell or use yourself.
That should ensure I can - seperate from my secondary account - keep myself shipped.

Where it goes from here?
Only one way: forward.

Ruby, your story could be mine almost exactly. I've been in FW a little over a week and I've been using my LPs to buy Navy Comets which I sell for fun and profit. I'm looking for a corp at the moment, let me know if you find any good Gallente ones that are noob friendly and grown up. Or if you're ever in Placid and looking to bushwhack some squids or losec pirates, contact me in game and we'll go looking for trouble and good cash ISK money--ah that is I mean the greater glory of the Gallente cause, of course. (Same offer holds for the OP of course)

Banish plump Jack, and banish all the world.

Brave Newbies is a fairly legitimate corporation that takes on noobs all the time. You can read a bit about them here:

http://themittani.com/features/life-brave-newbie

You may also want to look into Eve University - they take new people as well and train them in the game. Check out their website here:

http://www.eveuniversity.org/

Be sure to bookmark their wiki in your in-game browser. You can type just about any ship a noob would want to fly into their search bar and get an article with recommended fits and equipment. You can also research different game mechanics and professions there.

This character profile I'm using says I'm a year old, but in reality I've been only playing a couple months (took a looong time between the free trial and paid subscription).

Here's my own history:

I completed the newb missions while a trial account, and was just starting to jump into anomalies and fight NPC rats in my Cormorant and running exploration sites when my trial ran out.

When I re-subbed I started doing exploration again, since that's what I really wanted to do. Hacking and stuff. I know the payout in high security space isn't good with these, but it's the best place to get really good at scanning and hacking. But there weren't really enough hacking sites to make it an active job, so I started thinking about other things to do. Did a bit of highsec ratting, but that wasn't too much my thing. Then I read about "ninja salvaging."

Look it up on Eve University wiki and on YouTube. You basically locate other people in highsec who are running missions. Warp to them, and salvage all the NPC wrecks they just made - with or without their permission. As long as you only SALVAGE the wrecks and do NOT loot the wrecks, you're fine - they can't shoot you. All they can do is cry about it in local.

And if you want to provoke some fights, go ninja salvage in a ship that can fight back, loot AND salvage their wrecks, and if one of them tries to fight you, great!

Salvaging really doesn't take much to train, so it's something you can start doing pretty quick. You should also train Astrometrics to level III, then train all the other astrometric skills to III, then the original Astrometrics to IV.

I did all this for a while and it was actually kind of fun while it lasted. Eventually a player invited me to go out to low security space, so I did. I did some exploration out there and found I could easily make 10 million in one night of hacking sites. The biggest challenge was getting my loot out of lowsec to highsec markets to sell. Have to do some blockade running in order to do that.

But I did this on a two-month account with only 700,000 skill points or so. Eventually, my contacts led to me joining a corporation where I'm... I'm doing other stuff.

Things can work out fine for a newbie in this game as long as you're willing to practice hard at the things you can do, never fly something you can't buy ten more of with your wallet, aren't afraid to jump out and sink or swim at something new, and are friendly to the other people in the game. Opportunities will open up.

Oh, I forgot...

One really great thing about that Eve University Wiki is that when you open it up in your in-game browser, you can click on the different modules it's suggesting for each ship and immediately get the info window to pop up - then you can look at "prerequisites" and see if you have the skills to use it.

It's a great way to plan out your future skill training.

This.

Ask your friends If you can join up with them. Every corp needs a Leroy Jenkins for suicide tackle. It is a job that every EVE newb has done. It's a fun role to play and it will teach you an amazing amount about how to pilot a ship.

They said no. They're not the sort of friends where I can force them to say yes. So that's that.

I get the strong impression that I will be a burden wherever I go. So I can understand why they'd be reluctant to take me on.

Friends are people, you have to keep from helping you.

This is a great thread. I have been playing since December and I still feel a bit lost myself. I joined EVE with some RL friends as well but we were all in the military so we can't play on the same time table. I have since gotten out and have more time and find myself solo a lot. I have been toying with the idea of leaving out 6 person corp for one that actually plays and get some practice in. Also I have heard of FW but I have no idea what it is so I guess I need to do some research on that. Once I move and get a reliable internet connection again I am going to actively pursue something worthwhile. I have been using my downtime wisely training up all my skills so hopefully I can put my SP to use!

This may be true of your friends, but certainly not everywhere in EVE! There are many, many corporations which would love to have you join, the trick is finding them since most don't advertise as noob friendly. I can tell by your post that you've done plenty of research and are fairly knowledgeable for a new player - this is exactly the kind of noob people like to bring into their corps, someone self-starting that doesn't need 24/7 babysitting. They just don't advertise that way, to avoid recruiting people who are likely to quit in two weeks anyway.

You can try out one of the big name brands, like Brave Newbies or RvB. You may not find a corp "home" there, since they are larger and less personable, but it's a great way to meet people and get a handle on PvP basics while you look for a corp that suits your needs.

My number one suggestion would be to chat with everyone you can! Join public chat channels and see who's around, what they're up to, and if their corp has any openings. I think the best way to get in to a corp as a noob is to converse with members and get them to like you before you even ask if they are recruiting. Once they see that you are competent and worth their time they will be much more likely to relax their SP "requirements". EVE is WAY more fun when you play with people you like, so don't hesitate to stick out your neck and say hi to random people. :)

As far as your friends are concerned, I would actually recommend NOT joining up with them for now. It's easy to get tied down to what your RL friends are doing and not get to explore / meet people on your own, which is one of the best parts of EVE in my opinion! It's very much like real life. Networking is the best way to find a job (corp!)

FW or Faction Warfare is simply put, an opt-in set of rules and conditions in which you and the enemy militia can always pew pew, even in hisec. It has a very low bar of entry, and players fight over control of specific lowsec systems. At least that's the concept, it's still Eve so you will face shameless farmers and ruthless pirates all the same Pirate

We are a noob friendly corp. We are also very small and a WH corp. But you don't have to live in a WH. Fleets are normally friday nights NZ/AUS time with some other corps that we know. Extra t1's are always welcome. Just its been a bit quiet right now since the FC has RL stuff.

For our corp I have been trying to get some t1 fleets or AF fleets (t1's always welcome) going but have had a lot of luck because what members we do have are time zone spread out. [yes i am plugging my corp while at the same time not giving you unrealistic expectations]

So i solo. Well sometimes with my wife, and sometimes just in a rifter. Rifters are awesome. Of course i die a lot. But i have fun doing it. The camps where you get out with 3 points left in hull, or when you are blobbed by t3's for your 2M rifter. Its all fun.

Basically lvl 1 missions is to get to level 2 and 3 missions. 3's pay fine if you only want to fly frigates, which is mostly what i do. And mission can be done in ships you "can't fly well". For example i was doing lvl 3 missions in poorly fitted cyclones and Ruptures due to skills. These missions can get you a few million each time and sometimes 10-20M of loot. In hind site with lower skills drakes are the mission boss. Mission get you some "combat" experience (fitting ships, turning modules on and off at the right time, manual flying) while giving you isk to fly pvp... which pays poorly. Done right you only need to mission a few nights a week.

The biggest trick and secret to eve is to fly cheap ships, they are still half decent if you can fly (read click fast in the UI) well. Then you don't need to grind for weeks to get the new shinny pixels that die in a fire in about 30 seconds. Cheap here means relative to your cash.

Finally there is the Bombers Bar. On sundays we have the sunday special which is *not* bombers. If its something you can't fly we are always keen for fast tackle, and often end up with t1 frig fleets. They are a rather noob friendly outfit and very tolerant of mistakes in fleet. We even did a rookie fleet a few weeks back. We died. Fast. We laughed, reshipped into t1 and got some nice kills. 100% recommend checking it out.

Of course there is always PLEX for isk then just pvp all the time. I see everything in terms of PLEX these days. A few beers at the pub... 3PLEX. A nice dinner out. 20 PLEX ... Hard to justify hours of eve that you don't like if you have RL money. But i still don't mind missions and it can help fix status which PLEX can't.

AKA the scientist.

Death and Glory!

Well fun is also good.
