Depends entirely on what you want to do with them

But all of them are great at something. Since the HML nerf none of them is really heads and shoulders better than the others.

doing them for cloaky close range pvp

So care to post a fit for the guy based around the cloaky sub and the augmented cap resevoir?

I thought about posting a T2 fit, but this is an actual TQ version instead. Downgrade the tank & dmg mods and rigs if ISK is an issue, but then you'll probably want to swap a magstab for a Reactive Armor Hardener to maintain the tank figures, and T3 is expensive anyway. Do invest into the tackle mods, you'll want the pimped range.

Warrior II x5

DISCLAIMER: I'm obviously not recommending this fit for OP, or the Proteus at all. Get a Thorax or Incursus instead. Unless you plan to hand out juicy kills for altruistic purposes.

Neut+cap injector fits work, as does active tank- which is much less a brick to fly around. Even nullifier setups work on Proteus. EFT and pyfa are your friends, tailor to suit your preferences.

You REALLY want to start with frigates. You will die an awful lot if you aren't used to PvP.

Check out this thread - it relates to what you described as your goal: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=262962

Ive flown them all(not onthis character mind you) and have found that for the things i do(small gang) the proteus is best. Of course you can't go wrong with a loki in fleet or a active tank ham legion for solo, but the proteus was always and will always be my favorite. Of course i use the 100mn tengu from time totime but its dps is seriously lacking and leaves something to be desired

I was Told that Proteus is the best WH pvp strategic cruiser, i was just wondering what is the best for known space pvp strategic cruiser.

and is there any fit that you guys can share for pvp proteus in known space. would it be better if its a cloaky one or not in a known space?

It's been a while since I've done anything in a wormhold, but the reason that the proteus is good is because it can fit the cloaky subsystem, sneak up on someone in a wormhole, and then pounce on it with blaster DPS and a ton of EHP. The only chance they have to save themselves from that fate is to be diligent with d-scan and catch you in those two seconds it takes to cloak up.

In k-space it's less effective because of local, which lets everyone know you're there. Either they're paying enough attention to dock up, or you can gank them without the cloak. The proteus is less effective in k-space fights because it's slower and has less range than the other T3 ships. As I understand it a webbing loki or a tengu tend to do better solo.

still no answer if proteus is a good pvp t3 cruiser for known space.

Yes, the ability to fit a near battleship-sized tank on a cruiser hull is very useful. You are looking at maybe 500dps out of one with max skills (covert offensive, I've never used the others, even in high sec, being invisible is very useful).
