First and most importantly - and because others have already posted what are essentially recruitment ads, since that's what the OP asked for - yes, there might very well be an industrial alliance of independent corps, exactly what you're looking for, already advertising on the Recruitment Center forum. As an added bonus, their leader is remarkably handsome. *cough*

Second, and to directly answer the OP's question: yes, this kind of alliance is very viable, and presumably there's a lot of interest out there. Cooperative industry on the corp level isn't really doable, because of the serious, impossible-to-defend-against security risks involved. I authored a rather exhaustive thread on that topic on the old forums. Most seriously:

  • The Factory Manager role. You must give it to anyone you want to meaningfully participate in research and industry, but it also gives them the ability to cancel the entire corp's jobs, destroying untold billions of materials, setting your research back months, etc.
  • You can't revoke corp members' ability to attack corpmates' ships in hisec. One spy - or just a corpmate that becomes disgruntled - can tackle and destroy your freighter/orca/whatever.

So corp-level industry isn't safe, but solo (or one-man-corp, same thing) industry isn't terribly sociable. We concluded that an alliance of one-man-corps, or at least independent corps, is thus the way to go.

Edit: exhaustive != exhausted
