With missile velocity rigs, a caracal can hut further out.

Later, look into the bellicose. It does not hit as far, but works well in fleets by providing target painters.

Also, do not over look the corax or talwar. These two missile destroyers can be very fun.

The Bellicose is quite fearful with Rapid Lights in a PVP environment, it really eats small ships up. I prefer the Corax over the Talwar for fleet use as it hits very solidly with light missiles.

The key is what you want to do - the Belli, Caracal and Navy Scythe are all really good Rapid Light platforms

The Caracal, Navy Osprey, Navy Caracal, Cerb are all good heavy missile platforms.

TBH the Caracal is the best of all worlds and very cost effective for a T1 missile based platform and works well (depending upon fit) in a lot of situations. Really the best most versatile PVP bang for the buck.
