I wrote this step by step guide on how to use your directional scan. This helps alot for PVP as well as finding a POS without giving away that you are looking for them.

Any tips or tricks of the trade would be greatly appreciated!

Step one, point ship (Because obviously you wouldn't have a graphical UI thing for something like that in the FUTURE)
Step two, fiddle with degrees
step three, fiddle with ranges that for some reason are the only thing in the entire game measured in KM instead of AU

Im probably misunderstanding what you put here. "Point ship". This smacks of the most common error people make while d-scanning. Ive corrected people that have played eve for many years on this single issue.

The direction your ship is pointing has zero bearing on your ability to pin-point people using narrow d-scans.

A 5 degree d-scan will show results directly behind your ship from the perspective of the camera bot regardless of where your ship is pointing.

Using the new camera tracking from the scan window can speed up this process a great deal since whenever you click something with this active (assuming you havent moved the default tracking location), it will point the camera in that direction and place your ship in the objects path. Giving you a perfect narrow scan without all the minor corrections this used to entail.

Point !== align

:P

Also CCP made the tracking camera less usefull recently, was probably something to reduce motion sickness or something but it moves a lot slower now than it used to =<

You should rep your hull and armour.

couple notes:
People will almost always warp to 100 or 0. if theyre rushed, 0, if they had time, 100.
There really are VERY few cases when people dont and hence you should always warp to 50.

Finding a POS is usually easier by leaving your dscan at 360 degrees, adding moons to overview and hitting scan at the ranges of the moons.

personally i always dscan from the system map.

The tracking camera was great before they slowed it's tracking speed down.

We could cross a system and 5 degree scan every FW plex as it came into range.
I always assumed that was the reason they slowed/nerfed it. It supplied a lot of intel very quickly on the fly.

CCP could/should add a 'camera tracking speed' slider in the options menu. Win/win.
