If you like hauling and trading you can get paid to haul.

http://red-frog.org/faq.php

I am not an official representative of this corporation,

But I have heard from others they have a fantastic reputation for getting the job done.

Personally I'm a fan of any industry that is player not npc driven. Pirate

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.

Well, if you want my advice, I recommend that you go look for a corp that fits your play-style. If you don't mind hauling stuff or producing things, go look for an industrial corp. If you want to do PVP, go join one of those corps. In any case, they will be able to help you with training the right skills for your career.

Well it did not take long for me to get turned off already. Spent several days trying to get into EVE U only to have them tell me my answers on the questionaire were not "long enough". I just wanted to learn how to PvP and maybe see what fleet fights were like...

Oh well, at least it only cost me 5 dollars to figure out this isn't going to be the game for me.

I know I'm going to get laughed at for this but here goes...

When I first played EVE I wanted to be a hauler. Started off playing the market a bit with minor items and making a little cash here and there and was kinda fun but wanted to get good enough to hire myself out for loads.

Then I found out about how impossible it was to secure a load since people either scam, don't need your help, or just like blowing you up for the laughs. PvP is fine to me... I just like it having meaning beyond "hey, wouldn't it be funny if we just blew up that fragile transport for fun?"....

You asked...

I've been lurking the forums for years watching all the drama going on with nul sec and find it interesting. Hoping someday to be able to be a part of that but not having any experience or connections there I am doubting that will happen either... but we'll see.

Strangely (given that I'm now a full-time pirate), one of the things I seriously considered in my early days was being a hauler, or "space trucker" as I liked to think of it.

Now, there is some work available for new characters, but the truth is that you need a lot of hauling space for the profitable loads and a chunk of ISK to pay deposits (all the while trying to avoid scams).

I ended up going down the pvp route, but if I had stayed in high sec I would have looked at buying my own stuff, hauling it, and reselling at a profit.

Here's the basic plan: I have an alt in two trade hubs, say Jita and Rens. My main runs between them. I then switch between the characters looking for items with a price difference between the two hubs. When I find one, I buy low, shift the goods, and sell at the higher price.

Does it work in practice? I don't know, but it would have been fun to find out.

If you like reading about low sec piracy or wormhole pvp, you might enjoy my blog.

I actually played EVE years ago with a different account for about 4-5 months and kinda liked it. Stopped playing though after the corp me and a few friends had made got "metagamed" and Wardec'd and basically could not play due to not having the right skills and money to repel the attack.

So here I start with a new character and hopefully fresh prespective but am unsure how to proceed. I have heard of EVE University and am thinking about trying that out but don't even know how to contact them.. I'm that noob again it seems :)

This a good idea or not? Any suggestions to help me get started?

Bad idea. Nothing has changed. You'll just get hosed again by marauding metagamers.

Hauling, especially through dangerous areas, can be rather tricky to pull off and takes a good deal of skills. It also isn't "a waste of time". It's done across all space - highsec, lowsec, nullsec and wormholes. Ask anyone how the hell those POS's get refueled and who does it.

There are tricks to doing it and some nice profits getting involved in trading in and through dangerous areas. You will lose ships if you get into dangerous transportation but it can be profitable and is valued though not thought of by many as a good way to go over "melting faces" and the like.

I found an amusing alternative to hauling was to break out the calculator and, after accepting hauling contracts, do some subtraction to see if the contents were more valuable than the deposit. If they are, keep them and sell them.

Some call this stealing, but whatever. It's EVE. I have a calculator and so do you.

Oh, and don't let EVE Uni or any other corp discourage you. Unless you luck out and find a good one, most corps are an enormous waste of time. I get plenty of chat in player run chat rooms and the newbie corp channel.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.
