I recently had a problem with the Eve Launcher, my first actually. There was a small download, and the error message said the download couldn't start because of a process running called ccpbrowser.exe. Initially I thought it was referring to the launcher itself and thought, 'if I close the launcher, how it it update?' I looked on some threads here on the forums, and the first recommendation on each thread was to run the repair tool.

I opened the file destination and ran the repair tool out of the CCP>EVE folder. It gave me a message that there was a 6mb update and gave me a yes/no option to download it. When I hit yes, I recieved the same error as the launcher gave me. A currently running process, ccpbrowser.exe, need to end before the download could start. The repair tool closed, and this is the weird part, it changed its file extension from .exe to .exe_rngwfh.

What does that mean, and why did it happen?

I opened my task manager, found the ccpbrowser.exe process and ended it. The launcher updated without a problem. Without thinking about it, (shoot first, ask later I guess) I copy and pasted the new extension on the repair tool, manually changed it back to a .exe, and checked if it would run. It seemed to run normally, (I assume. I've never used it before.)

So again, what was the file extension change?

Is 'ccpbrowser.exe' the in game browser, and if so, why didn't it end when I quit Eve?

Edit: ccpBrowser.exe is the in game browser. I read the process description initially, but couldn't remember it word for word for this post, so I didn't say anything for certain. The description does say 'CCP Web Browser' though. So the question remains, why didn't it close when I quit Eve?

Going to give this a bump and see if anyone else has had a similar issue with the in game browser. If I get no replies after this I'll drop it. Mostly I'm just curious; I was able to resolve the issue.
