Will never happen.

Realistically, when you enter any system in space, you would have no clue who or what is in the system with you- let alone their exact position(s) and that's what probing/scanning is all about.

Imagine how much more challenging it would be if you actually had to find signatures for everyone in a system to investigate them. Imagine people actually having to pay attention to d-scan to see if someone's popping probes to scan down targets. You wouldn't know if it's a PVP or PVE target until you warped in to investigate it.

My opinion- but I really do believe it would make the game much more exciting for everyone rather than catering to just the few lazy people who don't want to bother with scanning if they don't have to. It might actually bolster the role for people who actually do train scanning skills to scout out systems, etc.

The few people left playing, would probably agree with you.

So many completely ignorant people in this thread. I'm reading things like "effortless, perfect intel". Gathering intel takes effort, because you can't trust intel channels. They're indicative. If you want perfect intel, you need scouts. You might get lucky decloaking a T3 or a bomber but in general only a group of organised people with scouts in appropriate systems will be successful at doing it.

The people wanting local removed GFTO into a WH or learn to play Eve.

An alliance, defending their space from someone they don't feel should be there? Surely not!

Also, moving this to Features & Ideas Discussion.

Gotta say, the free intel tool is simply NOT the best friend of those holding sov.

Saw this, had to respond to it, it simply has the garbage talking points most used to twist the truth...

we heared NO a couple of times, however no argumets for it... interesting

1- Local is useful for anyone not using a cloak to navigate through null.
2- We have local free places, they are called wormholes, but I guess you're just too stupid to scan one down
3- Give a good reason to do this, since you're so pro at avoiding gate camps, why are you worried?
4- Who was playing eve on easy again?

Your turn, give a single argument to turn it off.

(I know I'm blocked but he reads them anyway...)

When you realise that CCP is not changing anything for you, can I have your stuff?

By the numbers then...

1- Local is useful when in someone else's space, and you can't be bothered to scout or scan ahead properly. Lazy FTW!
2- If you think local chat is the big difference between K space and W space, you should try spending time there.
3- The intel crutch being removed, so both sides actually need to make an effort in a PvP game...
4- Everyone who is in null, and using local chat to avoid PvP, effectively making PvP consensual only for them. Easy Mode.

Oh, and CCP is changing things.
When they noticed the amount of ice being mined in null, and how the miners effectively had no risk thanks to mechanics such as local, they limited the ice in other ways instead.

I think that, in order to have local as it works today, there should have to be a beacon built in the system.

The beacon could be built by a corp/alliance and could also be destroyed by anyone (with maybe less HP and cost than a POS).

This way, the chance for intel would be there, but it would require some effort. It would also spice up the fleet strategies.

As it is now, null sec is far safer than highsec, which I suppose isn't really in the spirit of null sec being the lawless frontier, or whatever.

Very cool idea, adds an interesting game mechanic, provides more manufacturing for indies. I think it would be interesting too if it had to be placed somewhere away from a POS, but could still have ample protection around it. That way, it really would function as a comms outpost, instead of just being another structure squeezed into a POS.

they don't need local chat to defend

the game would be much more interesting if people can sneak into territory without that local chat visibility

If it doesn't show up in local, and you cant scan for it cause it's cloaked, How do you defend your sov against it?

you want no local channel like in wormholes? sure no problem, give npc income like ppl have in wormholes and problem solved. actually it would need to be bigger, because there is no hotdropping/blackops in WH, and you need to scan for WH, unlike KS where you would just warp from gate to gate and check dscan for targets.

On the other hand, logistic needs for supplies in null are far easier than in wormholes, we have markets, med clone facilities, and all around predictable travel ability.

Wormholes have a lot more challenges to them than simply local being delayed.

which has nothing to do with income based on risk
