Post-Kronos deployment: Just got a freeze during warp.

It's still with us, guys.

At least this character seems immune to it. I wish there was a way to test characters for it on the character bazzar, I'd sell my freezing character and buy a new one.

Had this issue for years on all my macs. Frequency comes and goes, some patches crashes more than others but its always there. At least once a day and currently every 30 minutes. Usually when i quit another client start a new one. sometimes one client crashes. sometimes all of them

Its obvious from a 4 year old thread over 28 pages that this will never be fixed. Sad

I was hopeful this time but even if it seems to be freezing much less often than a couple years ago when I unsubbed because it was plain unplayable because of it, it's still not acceptable.

I'm a dev, I know how heisenbugs like that one are hard to track and fix but my only reasonable action at this point is unsubbing again until this issue is finally fixed.

Lo and behold - Kronos arrived. And yet the more EVE changes the more it stays the same. I'd hoped that these issues what were haunting most of us would go away. Unfortunately - they did not :(

New client - new hope. When I think of all of you who has been playing for years like this I feel discouraged. And here I thought that my dissatisfaction with this situation was something special. Now I am angry mostly at myself, in one part for letting myself believe, also for spending 2500$ on my Mac set-up and not being able to enjoy it. Subscribed for this month - I feel June will be my last month of playing EVE. Though masochism is not my foe.

Thank gods I have Wurm online. There I find serenity and peace of mind. Cutting, chopping, sawing, building, digging, mining, planting, growing, fixing, mending - where the main problem is what to eat for dinner.

Sadly I almost feel this way, but I have some stuff still to do in Eve until I am done for good.

I have just migrated to my PC side... which just like you, saddens me. I know this will be my last mac... for good. Just to much disappointment on the Mac side with great games.

My biggest issue is this... how come blizzard can make a SUPER AWESOME client for ALL of their games, and CCP has YET to get it smooth. It seems like a BETA on forever rather than an actual client. Hell ANET did a good job on their Cider...

Why can't CCP get it right? Is there not enough employees? Is there not enough Mac uses to justify the fixes? Is there no real intention on keeping the OSX "client" going after a while? Are you guys going to dump it? Do you even care?

These are questions that we are all thinking and asking. I am not mad, just sad. A great GREAT game, and I just so happen to LOVE OSX, but then you mash them together and BOOM! Awesomeness, but then... bugs, bugs bugs.

What makes CCP different from all the other companies that have OSX copies and work 100xs better?

@Otaryo - you list the Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 as your graphics, but if you're running EVE on a MacBookPro, it has a second graphics system that's used for more demanding apps. To find it, you have to go to About this Mac and press More Info, and then press System Report followed by Selecting Hardware>Graphic Displays.

My original posting doesn't seem to have made it to this thread, so here's the gist.

Running OSX 10.9.3 on a MacBookPro10,1 (about a year old).
Client froze, requiring reboot, yesterday.

Today, client froze, requiring reboot, and OS X told me that EVE Online was damaged and should be thrown into the trash.

I'll have to download the whole client again, I guess.

There is a way through System Preferences to set the machine up to let you do a remote login using ssh from another machine, so that you can kill the client specifically without needing to reboot the machine. I'll be setting this up as soon as I'm done with this post.

Where does EVE put diagnostic output? It doesn't appear to wind up in any of the normal Console logs.

Thanks,

When the client freeze, you can generally just kill it using "CMD-OPTION-ESC". No need for reebot or ssh.

I'm starting to suspect that this is actually not a graphical bug but related to a UI blocking call that fails to complete because of a bug somewhere in wine. Possibly network related.

I'm getting this issue also, but usually when I alt-tab out and in a lot.

I posted about the problem almost a year ago and they still haven't resolved the issue. The recent updates have made it worse. For all intents and purposes the OS X client is unusable and I don't believe that is going to change.

So every now and then I pop in EVE to see if anything has changed. And for the most part it did - the new graphics looks very nice, I really like what they did to the Stars and how they shine now. I enjoy the upgraded textures and blinking lights. It even seems that iMac runs EVE faster now.
The new content, i bet, is fantastic - unfortunately I can not experience it as the most important and crucial part - constant freezing - still persists.
And I tried again and again various settings, all those measures suggested by DEVs and ... nothing. So I decided to use another approach - to literally do nothing.

Installed a fresh EVE client, updated, logged in, chose my character, game loaded and I did absolutely nothing, not even moved a mouse, nor did I hit any key - just laid back listening to the awesomeness filling the room and waited almost sleeping.

And yes, finally, my patience was rewarded - game froze. 3 more times - exactly the same outcome. At the forth attempt I fell asleep and woke up after 8 hours - game was frozen Smile. Showered, dressed up and went to work. Average time from the start to the freeze - 15-20 minutes.

It makes no difference whether you warp, dock, open tables, etc. or do absolutely nothing - it still freezes.

So what can be the reason for it? I still do not understand how come test server was stable during the mass test a month ago and the TQ is so messed up. QuestionQuestionQuestion

I am currently suffering a lockup or freeze at the 'Authenticating' screen. I have to do a hard shutdown, each time it happens. I filed a petition and they advised me to remove and reinstall the game. The problem persists.

I have now removed and reinstalled Eve Online twice in one week.. costing me about an hour each time of aggravation. Anyone have a workaround for this problem?

Is CCP going to fix this ?

I got frustrated enough with the constant freezing of the client that I went hunting for a solution.

The last few days, I've not had a single crash, lock up or freeze while playing nearly all day while working on my Retina Macbook Pro!

I made a quick video that shows and explains what I did and why, to resolve the constant freezing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUAdyPJtSZo

But, here's the basic instructions:
- Make Sure EVE Online Is Not Running
- Open Your Applications Folder
- Right Click Your EVE Online Icon And Choose "Show Package Contents"
- Navigate To Contents Then Resources
- Right Click On EVE Online Client
- Select Get Info
- Make Sure "App Nap" Is Checked
- Close Windows, Relaunch EVE Online

Disclaimer:
Your results may vary. This has resolved the stability issues for both myself and an iMac using friend. We've not had a single issue with client stability in the last 3 days, even when running 2-3 concurrent accounts on each system! However, variables such as your OS X version, hardware, or various levels of divine intervention may render this solution useless to you!

If it doesn't work, I'm sorry and hope that one day CCP will get their act together and fix the Mac client properly.

However, if it does work, please be sure to let your Mac Gaming brethren know so they can stop suffering!

I'm going to test this and report back. I sincerely hope this works and you'll have my eternal thanks if it does.

*Update*

Did not work. Client froze 16 min in, sitting in the dock.

Same problem here, can't do anything useful. Can't complete missions, freeze ups are near constant. Never had this issue before.

Edit: whatever client patch yall put out today helped. logged in, flew around, no crash.

Thanks.

I've had problems today after the 16. july update - my client freezes up after about 20-30 mins. Weird thing is, this only happens on my low- and highsec characters, not my nullsec character (this character does not dock in nullsec). Maybe docked characters are the problem?

This still happens to me as well. I run Eve on 2 different macs: an iMac and a MBP. I run my clients windowed and on low graphics setting. Often, I run 1-2 clients on the MBP and 1-6 clients on the iMac. I've been playing Eve since 2008 on Macs and this was never an issue in the past. I came back to Eve after a year break last year and all of a sudden I get the freeze bug. On the same computers I've been playing on without bugs. I have tried to trouble shoot the issue: I've run the eve repair tool, deleted and reinstalled, cleared cache, restarted, etc. I've tried it with different other apps open and closed, I've tried it with one client, and multiples. It seems COMPLETELY random. It happens in space, docked, null/high/low. I've also ran timers to see if it happens after a certain time. No common thread.

One interesting addition, is that since the last patch- I get a new freeze. If I'm running multiple clients on one computer and close one of the clients, the rest freeze and have to be force quit. This has never happened to me before. I had filed a petition in game last year and got absolutely zero help. The first level GM hadn't even heard of this bug before. It doesn't seem like this is even on CCP's radar.
