I literally bought the game today... 12 hours ago. had no issues when i was on the trail account had multiple windows open (web browser, etc)

As soon as i open u- torrent with the web browser open and eve it freezes up ... can control mouse, cannot interact with anything.

i switch off the power source because i cannot leave EVE. (Fullscreen mode)

Restart, make sure web browser / u-torrent are closed... boot eve up .. (currently mining) warp back into asteroid belt .... mine, NPC pirate arrives / or just over time, then it freezes again.

i'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.8
2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
8 gig ram
Mac book pro 2012.

Additional info - currently its 5-10 mins prior to server down.

Run the game in windowed mode. You can then hold "option" down and click the icon in your dock and force quit EVE when it locks up on you.

I would also like to weigh in here and bump this thread a little because this is a very serious issue. First, for those unsuspecting players who are playing in fullscreen mode - you are forced to shutdown your machine in a less than ideal way. It can lead to data loss, etc. Second, this is a major blocking issue for the OS X client. It happens with enough frequency that there is a serious disadvantage to players using OS X. For example, you can lock up in the middle of a fight. The game pace is too fast for this to be ignored. Last, it's just plain annoying.

I really hope CCP can fix this before adding new features...I would think making a game stable is more important than some of the minor issues I keep seeing being fixed in patch notes. I hear no acknowledgement of this problem by CCP and that worries me.

To be clear. This issue has NOTHING to do with running other apps.

For what it's worth, I've had a lot of success with opt-cmd-esc (the Mac ctrl-alt-del) as a means for quitting out of the client when it does this. That said, I still experience this, and it's annoying as hell.

will have to try that. i'd love to play this game full screen to be honest. i was hitting opt-ctrl-delete and command-ctrl-delete etc. didn't realize it was esc. thanks! (at least I don't think I tried that combo)...

and yea this should still be fixed. it's a serious issue that hurts gameplay and puts players in an unfair situation. i highly doubt a GM could reimburse me if I lost my ship due to it and that's even worse than not fixing the problem. that's blatantly ignoring it. and it will lead to people leaving. though i'm sure OS X players are few and far between and CCP probably doesn't really care about OS X players (in general - nothing personal). sad to say, but i get it.

$3000 rMBP and I can't reliably enjoy this game because the OS X client has this issue pretty severely for me. I cannot undock reliably. (I would like to note the SMC update fixed my red light green light performance issues.)

FIX THIS CCP.

Edit: I guess this is a bit unconstructive for actually fixing this problem, so heres a pastebin of my console.log hang from CIDER:

This problem was exacerbated for me after starting up transmission.

It have been a loooong time since I played Eve online, some years. Now me and all of my friends (everyone have mac) thought we would pick it up again to play it a year or so. Many things must have been improved right?

Sadly not.

The game freezes like every 10th minute on my brand new fully upgraded iMac. I have even tried to reinstall the game AND OS X some times now. I even have nothing running in the background.

Please hurry and give the Mac client some love:( Because this... just... Sucks... Really

if i change any of the settings for eve the the game freeze. i cant set hot keys, i can only at one thing to my overview, i cant change the size of text or expand a window to show more text. i can not rearrange icons were i need them. i have to have every thing stock. i can change this stuff but the more i do the more problems i have. this works every time. If i leave it stock i have the fewest problems. it all ways freezes when i take and action like warping, locking a target, docking, in the middle of loading a character screen, opening any menu while in a station. iv been able to reproduce this at any point and time both deliberately and unintentionally. i was able to put up may tack manager after being forced to hit Ctrl_Alt_Delete. It told me the game and client quit responding. the game ran perfectly when i was running the trial. when i paid for the one year subscribe is when all this whent to crap.

I started a thread called "CCP Respond" regarding the freezing. Please reply to that thread simply, and politely asking CCP for a response. They have this thread on auto-ignore, and we really need an answer to this freezing problem. Thank you in advance. The more they see of us asking, the more we may just get a response. Remember, be kind.

I'm getting a few of these a week now. I can almost defiantly force a hard freeze while using the in game browser and hitting certain sites (or when sites that are having a problem loading) but that has always happened. Now I'm getting the freeze just clicking on tabs in game or moving in space.

Edit: should also add that I never run torrents or anything else besides occasionally mumble in the background.

Have the same problem
My mac setup is: last Retina MacBook Pro + last MacOS X with all updates
Game is freezing randomly but i think this is related to network activity from other applications started at the same time (Browser/Torrent client/IPTV/etc)
Please fix this problem - it's really annoying

....would "Resolved a rare occurence of client freeze during gameplay" be the fix perhaps??

I actually tried to slip EVE into different versions of Cider to see if it was perhaps some DLL files or a certain version of Cider. It basically became even more unstable with all the versions I tried Sad So I gave up on that front and hope that CCP could fix it.

I'm really crossing my fingers that this patch note was in relation to the problem (and that the problem actually existed on Windows as well - since it's the same or same-ish codebase) and this has been resolved now. Really crossing fingers....

I can't get the game to stay open long enough to even file a petition. Seriously making me reconsider renewal as it has been happening for two months now. Client reinstall hasn't helped.

Confirmed. My method of getting a freeze (launch 3 clients, then start web surfing) also got a freeze.

Given that it should be the same codebase as Windows, I'm fairly certain it has to do with something in the Cider. A bad DLL or something. Again, I've tried to flip out parts of it with other versions of Cider that I've found but to no avail.

Obviously folks use a VM or Bootcamp, etc. without issue so it can't be the hardware...And again if the codebase is the same...That kinda leaves only a few things. Drivers within OS X for the graphics card (but given there's so many different people with different graphics cards and OS X versions and driver versions I'm gonna say it's likely not that) or Cider/Wine.

The latest version of Cider is not being used for EVE. I'm not sure if a newer version would provide any better stability or not. I'm half tempted to go yank DLLs off my Windows machine and throw them in and see how that works... Though I gotta dust off my PC and fix it first. I'm sure Cider isn't cheap...So I don't think they'll go to upgrade it anytime soon, but they should take dumps and bug reports and give them to Transgaming or something. Maybe they can help...If I were CCP, I'd certainly hit them up given they were paid for something that clearly does not work on a wide scale (multiple users, versions of OS X, hardware, etc.).

edit -- one other thing it could be and that is something in the graphics settings that OS X doesn't support that Windows does...on the same graphics card....which would be weird, though possible I suppose...and if it's an instruction in the game code that's required, then we're screwed...but I've already changed a lot of the game's graphics settings and it doesn't seem to matter which settings are used...so i'm gonna say it's not some sort of unsupported graphics card feature like some shader or renderer crap. though i know it really could be a million reasons because it's quite complex i'm really thinking it's not a complex reason.

While I still freeze on occasion, I reduced the crashes significantly by running in Windowed mode as opposed to full screen. Not as awesome on my iMac, but better than crashing.
