Kettch: Is there any difference in the number of other apps you have running when it deadlocks quickly vs. slowly? I'm trying to figure out if there are any additional variables contributing here.

FWIW, I've had this deadlock behavior happen occasionally as well. It may be because I had a lot of apps running (some with large files open) relative to my amount of RAM (4GB), but I haven't tested to make sure that's a significant variable.

The clients freeze up much more frequently with transmission running.

I solved this problem by using "optimize settings" on the "display & graphic" menu under "graphic content settings" tab; whenever choosing one or the other it prevent from freezing the game, that is quite boring.

Good luck.

I've had this issue for some time, but I seem to have gotten rid of it now.

I noticed that the client tends to crash when other applications uses a lot of connections, not sure exactly why (some conflict with ports perhaps?) but what I also noticed this morning was that the Eve Online client was not listed as an exception in the OS X firewall. After adding it everything seems to work well (only have one client running at a time). Earlier I would've easily gotten 4-5 crashes by now, but it's been running very stable all day.

I'm at a late 2009 iMac 27" with Core i5 and a Radeon 4850.

Hmm, I do have it on the firewall exceptions. I get very few lockups, but I do get them. Normally when running three clients, and web surfing. BUT

I run three clients via clones. I did not have the clones in the exceptions. I have no idea if that's needed, but I added them anyway.

I don't know which patch made this, but I got rid of the freezes, without explanation. Maybe one of the recent patches changed something, or whatever.
I still run some other apps in the background, and no freezes for more than one week !

I'm receiving these issues lately. I have now gotten a few freezes. And for some reason I can't open up EVE again and i have to shut down my computer to get back on EVE.

I just do anything in EVE, go onto my out of game web browser, then I switch back to EVE and suddenly I see my client frozen up. I can't get back on EVE unless I shut down my computer. its very annoying.

Came across this game while looking for a change from the usual MMO's I play and immediately fell in love with the concept so grabbed my credit card and signed up for an account. Unfortunately, the game has become rather frustrating to play as every 15-30 minutes on average I receive the message "The socket was closed" and then I am booted out of the game. Reading through the last TWENTY PAGES OF POSTS ABOUT SIMILAR ISSUES SINCE 2011 I realized that it is not a problem with me, or my brand new Macbook Pro, but with some part of the EVE software. Can somebody PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE to support us Mac players please?

THANK YOU!!!!!

I multibox 2 accounts, and they generally work fine on the 21" iMac (2.7 GHz i5, 8 GB Ram, nVidia 640M). The only problem I've ever had is that at some point, maybe when the client is minimized while auto-piloting around, or maybe when I'm actively doing something, the client will just freeze... I can move the window around, and the cursor changes upon hover to a pointer with an arrow pointing down (much like the cursor when you hover over a sidebar item).

Dunno what causes it, but I'm forced to 'Force Quit' and relaunch. Sadness...

Why CCP can't fix this issue for such long time? Mac users pay as well as PC. Why they should be descriminated? At last users can sue CCP for such crude behavior! Evil

What do you think about it, comrades?

agreed, it should be highest priority as that bug make gaming near impossible if you want to make anything more than just stay docked!!!

I'm having a similar problem, once i get to character selection my client just freezes. Sometimes it will say 'entering game as etienne picard' and then freeze, or sometimes it wont start at all. I have never had a problem like this with EVE before and is extremely frustrating. I did manage to log in yesterday evening and the game seemed fine although the client loading speed was VERY slow, splash screen only appeared after about a minute. Evil

my specs are: Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac10,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM101.00CC.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.52f9

I've been advised to clear the cashe using terminal but I get this error message:

rm: EVE Online/: No such file or directory

I have reinstalled the client four times now and it doesn't make any difference. It seems to be saving my graphics settings though, when I do a new install the window size and graphics levels are identical to the previous client I used.

If anyone has any idea how to fix this please let me know, its pretty disgraceful that this is happening to mac users.

I started having this issue today too. I had 3 instances installed in my Mac, two started like that there is one that still works.

Just for clarity, the issue is the following:

1) Open the launcher
2) Open the game
3) Perform login

at that point in the Character selection screen either

a) Clicking in the actual character has no effect. There is the noise of clicking on it but nothing else happens. The same happens if you click in the Open Game button in the inferior right side of the screen
b) You try to select a different character, which starts the process but then freezes in the Character loading progress bar

Hi,

Since I had a working version I tried solving the issue copying the Eve client and executing it, and I have the same problem over and over.

However when I copied my setting (in the ~user/Library/Application Support directory) it worked! Now I have 2 working versions again.

Maybe the client froze before because it was rebuilding the application support directory (it would explain the 100% CPU the new instance was consuming) and I was trying to get into the game. I had this idea when I realized that my application support directory had 7GB (Hey CCP, what about using a lighter way to store overview settings, ship fittings and chat logs?).

I didn't try to give the fresh copy an hour to see if it can rebuild the application support directory. I hope someone tries and tell the result.

I have since fixed my logging in problem. This is how i did it.

1: Deleted EVE Online folder in 'Application Support'
2: Checked Firewall settings, seems new patch removed permissions on my client clones
3: Upgraded to Mountain Lion (Its £13 in the app store, well worth it)

Havent had any issues since.

I have and continue to have all of the problems reported in this thread. I have always had a problem with EVE on Mac in that the freezing and the disconnects were always at a pretty unacceptable level.

I have EVE installed on an iMac (2009) and a MacBook Pro (2011) and the problems are identical across both.

0) Client will disconnect for no reason at all - even with ping tracers showing no drop in Internet connection
1) Backspace causes freeze more quite often
2) Idling will cause disconnect
3) Mouse response is horrid from login, gameplay and even in the settings - Mouse will often form a cross hair on items where it should be a pointer.
4) All of the time when the client actually disconnects, i will not know till I actually try and warp to an object or actually query character info, item info, market etc
5) EVE Voice will continue to run despite client disconnect - but this is not a major concern

The EVE client for Mac is not a native app and is essentially the windows client wrapped in a container to work on Mac, but the issues seem to steadily be growing and the pain of losing ships due to disconnects and desync is as well.

EVE works like a beauty on Bootcamp - except that the combination Windows, Bootcamp and gaming dont bode very well for the longevity your logic board due to the heat generated. Consistently above 90 degree Centigrade even with fans set to full speed.

CCP cant fix the windows on bootcamp problem, but some improvements to the Mac Client would be a welcome relief.

Frustrated Mac using EVE lover.

Having a problem myself getting past the character screen. Would love it if a dev could stick a fork in this . . .
