We need to figure out how to get you to option 3: Have eve work under OSX. I know its possible because that's how I run and I have not had a crash or freeze in weeks.

How can I help you get to where I am?

I have a few suggestions:

  1. A woodoo rite of good luck
  2. That spell of unfreezability the old wizard whispered to your ear
  3. Planets suddenly reversing their orbits, so changing the magnetic field adversely affecting just our Mac EVE clients
  4. Find a way to force CCP to look into this bug, possibly by law... who knows, perhaps in some country getting money for something that doesn't work (which may happen, for a short time) but that you don't bother fixing (which is the case, here) is a prosecutable crime

FYI, when I told them I was unable to play and I was tired after waiting all these months for a working Mac client for Crucible and that I now have to cancel my 4 accounts, all they could say was "Sorry to see you go".
If I had any doubts they might one day even just look into it, I'm now sure they won't: these people only care about the money and, apparently, Mac players are a disposable minority.

Oh, and in this game I've already been a disposable minority... I used to play on linux, when there still was a client for it, so I'm not inclined to think this silence is because they're busy trying to fix their alleged Mac client.

Hello all,

Decided to close my account after 24h pay subscription as I could not get to the game for more than 50% of the time. Freezing is a major problem in this game but at least you can quit and re log back and keep playing. Of course this is not a problem when you are new, but I guess it is one when you play at a higher level.

But the biggest issue for me in those 24h is that: I had two time the "Your character has repeatedly failed loading on the server. This indicates a fault and support personnel need to be notified. Please file a petition.
Apologies for the inconvenience...
The EVE Dev Team."

MG are doing their job, but you have to wait and to wait more with no compensation at all. Apologies is the tools for the incompetents...

It is to bad I did not read this forum before, and it is my fault, because I would never had spent any time or money on the game as the Mac platform is not stable. But, you have to pay the same price as the other...

The point is that Dev. do not care about it and do not care about you. It is alway hard to quite a game when you have spent a lot of time on it, but it should be the only way to force them to listen from your problems.
Anyway, I did not play much and probably loose one month subscription, but I do not care.

Maybe one day the players will be more protected against this kind of problems and they will have to paid back for their arrogance.

Best Regards

Don't know if this is pure luck, but I had my client running the whole day without a crash on my MacBook Pro. That has not happened before in weeks. There was a patch the other day, maybe it's resolved?

Yes, I think they did something ofc with zero transparency. My client seems fairly stable now though I have to keep Bittorrent turned off. Good customer service. Not. Anyway at least I can login and play, now setting long skill because fear after the 24th not going to be able to log in for awhile.

EVE is stable for me if I set the graphics to be optimized for memory. It's ugly, but it's stable.

Oh, and quit any and all memory hogs (Word, Firefox) because all your RAM are belong to EVE. I don't know whose fault it is, but the Mac client's memory management is bad.

I've noted simular cases, but with Transmission instead of Vuze.
Even with a 10kb/s cap.

Same here.
Fighting with CCP since like 3 months.
I have asked for reimbursement for my 2 accounts. But i think this is a dream

Since two days i cant log more than a 5 or 10 minutes.
It seems that CCP doesnt give a f**** about mac clients. Thing is they sold us the product and we pay for it.
We pay for a service not provided.

Will we get reimbursement? Should we just wait and continue paying like stupid customers?

At least some respect would be to give us a feedback on regular basis and to reimburse the time we weren't able to play (plex for example).
Business is cool and i understand that CCP was created to earn money and not to make me enjoy some gaming time. But with no ethics no business lasts.

I totally agree with you.
I made my last attempt a couple of days ago, mailing the customer support directly... no reply at all.

In a few days my last 3 accounts expire and I will have to drop them, after playing (and paying) since 2007 for 4 accounts: I feel cheated and I'll make this as public as possible.

Getting charged for a game we are not able to play is a shame and I think it's our moral duty to make sure this doesn't happen to more honest customers: they might get away with doing this to people like us who've been playing for long (still not sure what international laws say about this, though) but we can at least prevent more Mac players to be cheated like we were!

Free legal advice for CCP -> I'm still reading there is a Mac client for this game: you guys should at least clearly state there is no such thing. Incompetence (i.e. admitting on being unable to fix a problem that prevents your customers to use what they pay for) is one thing, false statement (i.e. claiming there is something that people pay for and that only works for part of them) is definitely different. Being honest this late might still not save your butts, but not being so will definitely not.

Download patch, log in, download patch on laptop, log in, look back at main computer screen, frozen up in station with music skipping.

c'mon guys, I'm getting kinda depressed by these long-running Mac bugs that simply aren't touched, patch after patch...

edit: log back in, undock, re-dock, press "corp hanger" button, crash to desktop.

Jumped to/through a stargate, got up and went to the kitchen, when I get back the game's frozen and the music's skipping.

It does pretty much always seem to freeze up when I'm doing something else; be it afk or alt-tabbed. It's like EVE stalls because you're not doing something.

edit: never mind, just froze up with the skipping music mid-mission while shotting my lazers.

edit: three more crashes in an hour, even after a reboot. this is ridiculous.

Have you tried my trick to re-start a frozen client? Open, then close just the launcher. You got to be in windowed mode to get access to the launcher, though.

Edit: They may have fixed it. My way of forcing the client to freeze no longer works. After today's patch, do you still freeze?

I am tentatively holding my breath; since the patch I haven't had a single "game freeze, music skips, mouse still moves" (or indeed any crashes at all) and have had EVE running in the background for extended periods of time (which is usually a guaranteed freeze).

Well I just came back after a multi-year break, took up the $20 for 60days offer and now I feel like an idiot.

My game works for about 1 minute at a time then freezes, I have to say this is kind of stupid, what hope is there of retaining returning players if their first experience with the game is that its gone to crap? I've always played on Mac client in the past and didn't have any serious issues.

Anyway, closed every app, just Eve running.

Processor 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory 8 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50d)

Firewall access granted, fresh install, cleaning caches etc, nothing works.

No debug output, get in to station, open a few windows (character sheet trying to get a skill training), game just freezes. No feedback at all, mouse moves and there's nothing to do except force close it. Windowed or fullscreen makes no difference.

Low settings, high settings for graphics makes no difference, turning on/off station loading makes no difference.

Basically, the game just doesn't feel like working.

Welp, never mind. That's two "game freeze music skips cursor moves" crashes so far this morning. On docked in station, one in space.

edit: 3.

edit: 4.

I just tested my method for triggering a freeze and un-freezing it. Its back. I can at will freeze the client, and bring it back. As I do not get spontaneous freezes I have no idea if my un-freeze method will work for those that do.

Would someone who gets freezes spontaneously please try my un-freeze method? All you do is open the launcher, then close it by clicking the red go-away button on the window.

I froze last night (not running anything else) but was in full screen mode and it completely froze the entire OS. I couldn't try your method, since not only could I not tab out, I couldn't force quite (or bring up the menu) either. Had to hard reboot.
