Im getting into BPO research and wanted to know if there is a formula for time efficiency and material research so Im not wasting isk and time.

In case you're interested in the math:

As a rule of thumb: blueprints start off with 10% waste. Each time you double the ME, you halve the waste. (It's not quite true. But it's close. it's waste * 1/1+ME. 1, 3, 7, 15 and so on, to go to 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16)

I prefer Zofu's since I can see a gradation of research levels (I don't do the "perfect" thing)... Zofu's BPO Calc

Nothing negative about Steve's site, I just like the gradations to see how far to go where *I* am comfortable with (I don't sell blueprints).

That's one of the reasons I put in the sliders. So it's nice and easy to shift the ME's, to see where the balance points are (and each of the 'perfect for this material' values at the end of each row. Smile

I like to keep it simple.

10% base waste: perfect is largest non-extra material count / 5.5 and drop all digits right of the decimal
5% base waste: perfect is largest non-extra material count / 10.5 and drop all digits right of the decimal

Researching more than perfect is useless, however it is rarely practical to research to perfect. I only recommend perfect for most charges.

Typically M.E. 20 is good enough for most anything. On a 10% base waste BPO that is less than 0.5% waste. Keep in mind some small rigs are perfect at M.E. 0

A rule of thumb: limit research to no more than a month.
