The downtime between final matches...

...is really too long.

I get it, the teams need time to get moved back to their staging systems, get in bans, and get things like ships, implants, and pilots sorted out. However, when you get 20k+ viewers on the stream for a fight that lasts 5-10 minutes, and then expect them to hang around for 30 minutes until the next one, that's a tough sell.

You'll get the hardcore people to stick around and watch (like yours truly), but if you want to pick up the casual EVE player's attention, or get new people into the game that don't play it, you need a higher rate of ships exploding per minute. Higher DPS, if you will.

Just something to consider. Exhibition matches would be great, like you did with RvB yesterday, or pre-recorded Dev vs. Commentator matches, or even have a sneak peek at the next expansion.

Looking at you, CCP Bro. P

PS: A sedative for Shadoo might also be a good idea! I keep having to turn down my speakers when he commentates. Big smile

Where are all the CCP guests talking about Eve Online in between the matches? That was a great feature of previous Alliance Tournaments...

There's a lot of issues for teams here.

1. Pilots - you need 12+ dudes for 7 hours.
2. Ships - you need to buy and fit a bunch of ships
3. Bans - exacerbating current problems
4. People gotta eat and drink and pee and poop.
5. You gotta decide what to run too.

Being a team captain I can say that it is definitely NOT too long.. I commend these teams for getting this together as they have in such a short time. It may seem from the outside to be easy, but it's a lot of work and highly stressful.

Ya exhibition matches inbetween would be a good idea, maybe with wagers or w/e to make it mildly more interesting than "two gimp teams slapping at each other".

Maybe toss in some commentary discussions on the current meta by folks who are at least mildly telegenic and not boring as #$%@. Sorry guys. Hell, you could even use Mintchip to do some of this stuff. Yeah people will utterly despise her, but at least they will tune in just to get their hate-on.

Even a news recap of recent events would work to give some variety, and introduce prospective players to the wider world of EvE.

As I said in my OP, I completely understand that 30 minutes is barely enough time for teams flying in the matches. To feel comfortable, I know Rote needed about 40-50 minutes to get everyone in fleet, ship distributed, fit checked, make sure it was repaired, etc. etc. etc. So, 20-25 minutes is a blistering pace for teams fighting now, not counting things like bans and setup deliberation.

I'm merely mentioning that for the average viewer watching the matches, the gap is too long, and needs filler to keep them watching. Case in point, I was going to watch this over at a friend's house today, but I'm glad I didn't... 10 minutes of combat, then 30 minutes of downtime would be a tough sell to him.

There is a lot of panel stuff, they could have fixed this by having someone as entertaining as myself as commentator. ;)

But between the downtime there has been some great matches. So I guess it's a toss up. This weekend has had the best matches of the tournament by far.

If the tourney was a format where 2 teams fought for 3rd place (and there were prizes for 3rd), that would be great to have in between the finals.

I think having more exhibition matches in the downtime might have been a nice touch. The RvB exhibition match from Saturday was pretty entertaining.

The gap is absolutely necessary tbh. As it was we were only just getting everything together and ready in time before the next match

Agreed. Match for third place would help, even if it's just best of three.

Having flown in it and then rewatched it, it was great.

Would love to have seen more exhibition matches along those lines.

I like the idea of having some in-between action of some kind, whether exhibition matches, 3rd place match or something entirely else.

But:

In fact, if I remember correctly, the viewer count grew from match to match, so apparently it built up exitement and gave people that only now heard about it time to check in.

More exhibition matches would be good.

Do a crowd participation match or two.

Give CCP Rise and CCP Dolan ship scanners in Jita and let them pick teams from a prearranged location in system and all the people that will end up there.

The selection process and the match(s) would be great time fillers between finals matches.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

I agree with OP.

The content in between fights was pretty dissapointing. There was too much talk about the metagaming which I think most people would find uninteresting in the long run.

One interesting thought to end on - what if CCP reached out to the better or more entertaining teams that got knocked out on Day 4 or 5, and asked if they wanted to fight an exhibition match?

I'm not sure about having a designated 3rd place match, though... by that point in time, those teams are financially and mentally exhausted. Especially when, at least to this point, there haven't been prizes for 3rd place.
