Skill training and UNReasonable things

In the recent "Reasonable things" it touches on skill training timers and the latest proposal is to increase them to 48/72 hrs.

What are you lot thinking with?

When you rent a place you do it for a period of time and you can then choose to do whatever within that time period, live in it, not live in it etc. - as you have paid for the right.

Skill training is EXACTLY the same. I have paid for a 3/6/12 month period - why can't I set the skill training period for the same time period?
Is it because I won't log in again?

I HAVE PAID FOR THE TIME PERIOD - I SHOULD BE ABLE TO SET THE SKILL TIMING PERIOD TO WHATEVER I WANT!!!

That last sentence are for the visually impaired and the idiots that covered their ears and went " la la la la la"

Yes I'm mad - no you can't have my stuff

Good question. There's really no need to increase it beyond 24h.

Well. I'm not against that idea. Basically you are right.
But ... i think that even if you login every 24 hours (or whatever you need to) you make something in eve universe that
keeps the wheels spinning and butterflies clapping their colored wings. Something like small buy from market, or sell something on market, just flying 1 jump to see ... something ... whatever.

OK i don't know the approximate percentage of pilots that just log in update skill queue and logoff (most probably toon traders) but you know what i mean. Every single login changes a lot at the end.

I'm a diplomat. Sometimes i throw 425mm wide briefcases at enemy. Such is EVE.

There's really no reason not to increase it either.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I agree with op, would love to line up skills for 3 and 6 month periods, maybe then the path i choose will actually get learned without me changing it...

While some ppl might not agree with it for what evver reason, it does not hurt them so why complain.

No, you've paid for access to the game as it is presented to you for that time period.

Buying access to your own developer to change the code as you see fit costs extra.

Sure there is: to ensure that you actually play the game every now and then and provide content for other players.

Until the Earth starts spinning at half of one-third speed, the purpose of the skill queue (to ensure you don't have to get up at 3AM to change skills) is amply fulfilled by having a 24h limit. Hell, it could even be reduced to 12h without any real issues.

Ideally they could leave it, and handle it with CREST. If you trust the people who write the programs not to do things like randomly stop your skill training, then restart it, without you noticing that you're losing time. Blink

And if they could get skillbook injection from your assets, that could make things quite different, with a potentially infinite queue.

baltec1, tell those noobs that got it good compare to setting your alarm clock for 2:30 am to wake up to set you next skill. Then having to reset alarm clock for 4:15 for the next skill. Then going to work, your skill finishes & you have to wait till you get home to put next skill in.

What a bunch of whiners!

I'm guessing the length of time thing is more to do with performance. To queue 50 skills causes a bit of lag, so imagine being able to queue hundreds of skills to level. Then you've got the server side performance of storing and managing those queues for thousands of people. It sounds trivial, but there really is a lot that needs to go on to ensure it all works right, and I imagine extending the queue time too much would cause problems overall.

I think it was slated to be a feature you could buy with Aurum, but for some reason people rioted at the whole Pay2Win idea.

The length is what it is because the system is meant to remove the need to wake up at odd hours just to change skills and to make training short skills more convenient. It is not meant to remove the need to keep logging on even if it is just to change skills. Even if performance was a concern for some odd reason, CCP could implement dual limits. For example 72h and 50 skill limit, which ever you hit first. Point being the limit is what it is primarily because of deliberate design reasons.

Now if the devs came back and said that all the queues for all the skills would cause lag/issues then there would be a good reason not to do this, but as this is completely a server side function, I don't see how it would affect gameplay at all.

Who has skills that are 24hrs or less?

Most of mine are at least 4 dayers now, at least the ones I actually want.

I don't agree with the logic that 'I've paid my month I should therefore be able to train for a month at once' since the two aren't even vaguely connected.

I don't believe it really matters at all whether they up it to 48 or higher.
