implant day trading

I was looking at implants for day trading, but something puzzles me and I am surprise-averse. Where do the sellers come from since implants are destroyed on removal?

These are clearly player markets, so it can't be NPCs. I've never seen a BPO/BPC selling for them. Some L4 missions drop them, but usually not ones that most people want. An obvious source would be pod killing, but someone told me pods don't drop anything (I'm not into that and I can't find anyone to volunteer for an experiment). So I'm guessing they come from lo/null complexes. Is that correct? If so, I am surprised at the volume.

The vast majority of implants are available in various LP stores. So the main source is mission runners, incursion runners, or faction warfare people spending their LP and putting the implants on the market. Some also drop from rats and are storyline mission rewards.

There are a few exceptions like the Genolution implants that are given as a gift to players occasionally (or at least have been in the past). Also, there are some that are only available from certain storyline mission rewards (just the mindlinks as far as I know).

Most Implants come from LP stores

There are a couple of "special* implants that only drop from certain NPCs
These NPCs can be found in storyline missions or certain complexs

These include the likes of
All of the mindlinks
shaqil's speed enhancer
republic fleet special ops
some specialized weapons implants

A few years ago CCP changed the number of L4 storyline missions so that effectively, the implant drop rate got nerfed.

That caused the mining implant to go from ~200 mil to approx ~ 1 billion.

After that change, an eastern european RMT corp moved in to supply about 80% of the market for those implants.

A couple months ago CCP finally got around to banning that RMT corp and you can see the price on all those modules rise according.

Unless someone else moves in to fill the void left by that RMT corp I would expect to see all of those implants increase 2-3x from their current value.

A good opportunity for a high risk / high reward investment.

FYI : I do have hundreds (maybe thousands) of mindlinks so you might want to take my predictions with a grain of salt.

I knew that! The mind is always the second thing to go.

Thanks.

Do you mean this mindlink? "Adding normal T2 mindlinks (including mining mindlinks) to the Concord LP store for 20,000 Concord LP and 20m isk (~60-80m final product sale price)."

Ugh. Implants, mindlinks, what's the difference.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

Confirming I am very, very glad to have gotten rid of all of my mindlinks before the new information.

The source of almost all tech 1 implants is mission farmers, mostly L4 blitzers that don't understand the market well.
The tech 2 implants come from two main sources, pirate overseers (e.g. "Low Grade Snake Beta") and level 4 storyline missions (e.g. "Armored Warfare Mindlink"). These last ones are changing.

The supply of the first category of implants is high enough that there's little opportunity to daytrade them in highsec AFAICT. The second category are much rarer and are indeed worth a look tradewise, although they are very illiquid.

If you do get into trading implants, you might want to look at Stoner Smurf's thread in here. His business is making you a lot of ISK by driving demand for your products (he kills enough pods in Jita to actually affect the market), so consider sending him a few dozen Thrashers so he can keep at it.
