Underrated yet effective frigs. What are your favorites?

Ok I"m bored at work and need to start a flaming thread :)

What are in your opinion the most underrated frigs (T1) now that they have been rebalanced? Can also put T2 in there is you want but some of them still have to undergo rebalance.

Mine are the rifter and punisher (no surprise there for anyone who has read my post)

The rifter is still king of versitility for me and can be fit to counter most if not all the other T1 frigs. It is a true jack of all trades, master of none. If it come up against another ship fit to do the same it will lose 9/10 times. Now more than ever before I feel the rifter rewards the better pilot in both combat tactics once engaged but also picking the right fight.

The Punisher will ALWAYS be a favourite of mine. It was the first 'combat' ship I flew in 2003 and still keep going back to them today. A lot of people hate on them because of the 2 mid slots etc but I just think it give them more character, also I often don't even fit a scram (cos its only a punisher after all), and you'd be surprised how many people don't even notice. It is a tanky little beast and can put out some excellent damage (scorch FTW - 122 DPS at 10km cold! or 171dps at 3km with conflag cold) and if you forego the scram and stick a web on there you have decent range control ability, or at least not get completely controlled by a faster ship.
A lot of people cite tracking as the big issue with these but I generally fit 2 metastasis rigs and never had anything get 'under my guns' when flying them. Picking the wrong ammo however is a mistake I seem to constantly make though Roll

So what are your underrated frigs that you enjoy flying effectively?

Oh and for reference just to show how bad I am my stats with these are:

Rifter K/D 58(32)/58(38) solo in brackets
Punisher 33(14)/24(14)

Not all time but over the last 18 months or so. I probably would have higher numbers if I stopped fluffing around in any and every ship I fancy on a whim Shocked

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

Im with you mate. If I fly out in a frig it will be 99 times out of 100 in a punisher or one of its t2 variants

My laser Imicus is wonderfully underrated. I have yet to actually peel it off EFT though and fit it up in-game.

I sort of wonder the opposite. Why do so many people fly atrons and slashers in pvp? Is the 400k isk you save worth losing 9xs out of 10?

I am not sure you would get more fights either since so many of these ships are just fw pilots that warp away, I (and probably other pvpers) don't even bother warping to them half the time.

The heron.

That many mid-slots mean a web-scram-td-mse and ab. Kinda like a hookbil midslot layout.

meaning you can sit at 7k taking very little damage and disengage at will.

The ares, it's in the shadow of it's brothers as far as dps goes, but it's a mean kiter with the point range bonus.

Noone thinks sentinels are bad..

Sentinels are ******* assholes.

I think the Breacher is a bit underrated, i generally get 6:1 or higher with it.

The comet i feel is actually a bit underrated even though people think its good. People don't seem to realize that it can roll over just about any other frigate in the game, rocket AF's excluded. My record in one was 1:19 and that included 2 3v1's and one 4v1 as well as multiple AF's and faction frigs.

Flying a Comet does bring many fights. I've had several nice 2v1s in my rail/AB/scram/web comet and it simply demolished the competition. It also stomps dual web Hookbills.

Rifter and Punisher are hardly underrated.

My choice for the most underrated pvp frigate would be the Heron - lots of CPU, lots of mid slots, huge drone bay, ... really just put a MAPC in the 2nd low and it can be anything you want it to be.

Metastasis rigs are a bad idea imho. Many enemies don't have tracking disruptors at all and even a single tracking disruptor should not really cause you problems (use approach or keep at range, don't use t2 ammo) - giving up rig slots on the off chance of encountering an enemy that can tracking disrupt you effectively is a waste. If you are worried carry some Drop around with you.

edit: I just see that Stalking Mantis, already beat me to it. +1 to his post.

Punishers are great if you are not in a solo fight. If you are in a solo fight the lack of mids is a problem. The tracking rigs and drop might help this. If you ab fit then you will be easy to kite if you mwd fit then reducing transversal will likely be impossible.

TBH they really didn't need the resistance nerf from 5 to 4%.

I don't know how you get 140dps. Even with all lvl 5 skills and overheated guns, the dps comes up to 111.

You need to include the drone DPS. The Helios gets a 50% bonus to drone thermal damage, so the single hobgoblin delivers the extra 29 dps. Without heat, you deal 124 dps when including the drone.
