I have noticed on entering some systems an area of the sky will sometimes flash with a red diamond and a label like JG34349 or something like that. What are those?

I assume those are wormholes?

I thought the whole idea was that you had to scan to find wormholes. If you get told they are there, what is the point of exploration?

You've still gotta scan for those. What you're seeing is your hud telling you "something is out there." That red diamond could be a wormhole, but it could also be a hacking, archaeology, or combat anomaly. And in order to find out, you'll have to probe it down, just like the old days.

As of Odyssey, Ore and Ice anomalies don't require probing, nor do common combat anomalies(which didn't require it before).
