Redesign of some ships

Forgive me if I've missed a dev. post or similar, but shouldn't CCP consider redesigning some of the ships that most players consider butt ugly? They have had good response on their deviantart competitions (let the audience bring on the new design), and they already have redesigned the Maller. I'm first and foremost thinking of ships like the Moa/Eagle/Onyx.

New Dominix please. Down with the space potato. I think the Brutix is hideous, too.

Well, while I agree on the Moa and the Dominix, i love the brutix.

Put the Brutix "nose to nose" with a Thorax and THEN tell me you love the look of it. Blink

Yeah that's kind of the problem with ship redesigns: aesthetics is mostly subjective.

I actually really like the front end of the Brutix, but the transition to the thrusters just looks...awkward and slightly fragile for an otherwise aggressively-designed ship.

Nope, Brutix looks fantastic. CCP's art team did a great job on it. Perfect example of form reflecting function. With its front-heavy hull, the ship looks in-your-face aggressive - it looks, essentially, like a blaster ship. It's perfect.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder indeed. But as I stated in my original post, they must consider doing it with the ships that least amount of players fancy. There should probably be some kind of poll. Probably in-game as forum crawlers don't represent the player base as such.

I brought up Moa as an example, because I'm under the impression that no one debates whether it's an ugly ship or not, everybody seems to agree on that. P

Brutix = really weird looking. I can't learn to love it but I can't hate it.

I really like the Domi myself. Imicus and Celestis hulls needs to go.

Leaves only the fresh scent of pine.

Don't touch my dominix mkay. You can do whatever you want with the celestis and most caldari and minmatar ships, but hands off the domi.

But some beauty is definitely in the eye of far more beholders than other's, right!? Blink

The Moa is definitely EVE“s ugly chicken!

May I mention the Bellicose too?
And the Amarr cut-in-half-ships, Crucifier and Aeon?
The growth on the Omen could be surgically removed too imo for a good make-over.

Moa is the ugliest ship of all. Everyone agrees to that, but CCP doesn't seem to bother that.

I'm probably one of the few people who like the Moa...

But most Gallente and Caldari ships are ugly....especially Celestis, Caracal and Raven...

How may I drug you with drugs?

Yikes, totally forgot about the Caracal. It looks like a shiny metal twig.

The Raven is a mess, although it's not as universally despised as some. I don't hate it, it's kinda utilitarian but not retina-charring.

Here's another one:

Does anyone actually like the pattern of the navy issue Gallente ships? Navy Issue Mega...great ship ruined by jungle camo. Think about it for a sec. Jungle camo. In space. lolwat.

I pretty much agree with you here. They both have some good looking ships (the Scorpion is probably the most awesome ship in the game, a ship that's been redesigned itself), but the majority are horribly designed. But yeah, I hope this thread will keep on living, because it would be interesting to see whether we can find some general census on a few ships. I don't want CCP to start redesigning the entire fleet of New Eden, but it would be great if they revisited a couple of the ships generally accepted as the ugly ducklings.

Meh. This is clearly too subjective to get a ton of consensus. But were it up to me, these could all use work:

  • Raven
  • Imicus
  • Moa
  • Drake
  • Apocalypse
  • Stabber
  • Celestis
  • Osprey
  • Ashimmu

But that's just me. There was a time I wouldn't hesitate to put the Dominix on that list but it's grown on me enough to forgive it. The Apocalypse is my personal least favorite hull in the game but I know it has a serious fan base.

Funny no one mentioning the Bantam. It is probably the only ship that can "compete" with Moa in my opinion. It's probably because no one uses it. Smile

Strange that you'd love apoc but hate geddon. They have very similar style. There's the phon and numerous others that typically rate below the geddon.

If Domi looked just like the Brutix I'd fly it or at least have one in my hangar and push my drones skills.

It's a shame that some of the best looking hulls - Myrm, thorax, prophecy... got gimped into the ground, while everyone and their mother flies domi/raven.

Umm. Where did I say that? I hate the apoc and don't mind the geddon, in fact. The problem with the apoc is that huge gaping hull in its underbelly. Apoc looks at best like a bit of space debris. Geddon looks fascinatingly evil and clearly designed to kill.

But like I said, unlikely to get much consensus on any of this....
