it does work on Mac's. I dont think it's been mentioned in the blogs (woops), but for what it's worth our internal testing verified it works the same as the PC.

We haven't tested it on wine. i guess in theory it should work, but theory doesn't always pan out.

I've noticed my client having issues on shut down more then when active. I run in windowed mode and I get a crash or not responding prompt when I 'X' out, but not when I Esc > Log Out. How many of all those crashes are from shut down? Is their any way to tell?

When the crash reporter is triggered, do I see anything? I have had one crash to desktop, and absolutely no messages were shown, just eve window, then desktop. That is how it was pre-crash reporter. Should I be seeing something different now, or did my crash somehow not trigger it?

Also +1 the proposal to make an update of this kind regular, maybe monthly is too much to ask but surely you could give us a quick update like this quarterly, so long as the more nervous management types can be persuaded to allow you to to show the spikes in crashs every 'expansion'. At the very least it'd be a semi-formalised time to put across any trends you continue to see, ie if users of certain outdated drivers are causing an abnormal number of crashes for themselves you could give a gentle poke to about itLol

Whilst I'm 'Management' I'm really not nervous about this as it's a great idea. Also, the guys are very keen to keep feeding this data out to people both as information and to make sure we keep working our way through the bugs.

Watch this space for details on how we will do this.

a webpage with all CCP feed information would be rad.

It is really a fantastic idea you guys are publishing results from a process most of us won't experience regularly. Otherwise we would remain ignorant of other people problems and CCP attempt and success at fixing them.

one problem i have come across...is that there is alot of graphic cards out there that are no longer supported even though they may be only 2 years old. there are ways to update the drivers but for my specific problem there isn't. ATI crossfire can suck my balls.

To be honest, except for shutdown failures, I've never had EVE crash on me in 3 years. Ever.

So good for you ! Big smile

CQ crashes on the latest beta drivers of nvidia (installed to run bf3 beta). My own fault for using beta drivers i guess.

The process of the uploads is fairly seamless (personally i love it) and you wont see anything clientside unless you run logserver.

Going to check that out. any change you could file us a bug report please with a dxdiag report? if we can reproduce internally, then i can also get Nvidia on the case.

thanks.

Ever fancy uploading, say, performance statistics automatically? I assume you have an awful lot of glitches to find (this is a 8-year-old game afterall) and every bit of information might be helpful. I, for one, certainly would be happy to share framerate, latency information, exceptions raised and other kinds of info all the time.

I'd like to +1 the quarterly reporting of this graph, too :)
This crash reporting tool is probably not only one of the best Eve-Improvements done for the game, lately, but it's also a great PR tool: It *shows* the CCP is "Doing Something" - Not that I think you haven't, but it never hurts to show the great unwashed hordes that Stuff Is Being Done :)

Now, in an uber-perfect world, when a crash report is submitted, if CCP could automate analyzing the report and, if a client-side, customer-implementable solution is available, it would email the customer. Ex:

"Dear UberNoobHulkKiller:

On 2011-10-24, your client crashed. According to our log analysis, this was caused by corrupted cache files on your drive.
While we cannot guarantee that this will never happen again, we suggest you run CHECKDISK and DEFRAG, which should substantially lower the chances of re-occurrence."

or:

"Dear UberNoobHulkKiller:

On 2011-10-24, your client crashed. According to our log analysis, this was caused by the driver for your video card.
While we cannot guarantee that this will never happen again, we suggest you update your video card drivers to the latest version available."

What astonished me is that my system used to frequently BSOD if I started Eve. luckily this was recently fixed with a firmware update. Now I know that this had nothing to do with Eve as this was a known bug in the OCZ Solid 3 in combination with a Sandforce controler, however I could play any kind of game for hours, nothing, I start Eve, bluescreen.

I still wonder what Eve is doing at start-up that caused my system to almost guaranteed go into BSOD the first launch. Not sure if this even helps you guys, but I am still wondering. ;)

So, when logging off last night (I actually used the escape -> exit, rather than right-click start bar -> close) EVE hung for like 20 minutes without ever closing on it's own (edit: I force closed it eventually). It looked like it was trying to close but held at about 140-170mb in memory. Is this from the new crash reporting tool? Should I just continue force closing EVE?

edit: also, when closing EVE through the start bar, does everything get unloaded from memory properly, or will I get memory leaks? And does the crash reporter still end up running?
