The PvP.

The forum PvP.

The local chat PvP.

The market PvP.

And L4 missions.

Never did I say SP was the deciding factor

WOW didn't have pvp? You sound as though you couldn't cut it in arena, my favorite form of pvp in an MMO. You can compare your comment very heavily to what some players have said to me on this forum. Where you complain about not having the gear in WOW to compete in arena, I complain about not having the SP to compete in the small fights on eve. In wow when I was playing extensively, I would roll many new characters and with rocking just blues in some cases, destroy these heavily geared players because I had the knowledge to. Full set of the lowest tier purples and it was game over for them until I got near players who were getting close to being equally skilled. HOWEVER When I first started wow, such as I have with eve, it was quite different. I needed the gear to compete on an equal level because I didn't have the knowledge.

Except this isn't the case in EVE. A player who has been playing a long time can make a dumb, dumb move in a big, heavily tanked, expensive ship and get roflstomped by a gang of nooby scrubs in rickety cheap ships with T1 fittings (led by a couple of vets who were constantly on the verge of wondering if were all going to get killed -- but we never did).

No, you're just another WoW trash-talking arena jock who is butthurt that he hasn't been able to casually stroll into this game and start getting amazing 1v1 kills from the start. You could have been getting good experience and group kills long before now if you had even a sliver of humility.

I halfway that hope you stick around long enough in the game to be embarrassed by this thread.

*ahem* Oops

Anywho... I think Tron's claim is that PvP in WoW is essentially inconsequential rather than claiming that it doesn't exist. You can't lose anything significant by doing it, whereas in EVE, you can lose everything you bring to the table if you lose. In addition, you can opt out of participating in PvP when playing WoW, something that is impossible in EvE.

I indeed did say that apparently, well played. I was pretty drunk during my first few handful of posts, so I was exaggerating a bit.
Knowledge wins, I won't deny that, nor have I throughout my posts here, this time I'm sure of it.
No you don't lose anything in WOW's pvp but then again that isn't really what it's about. It's about winning, not losing. The ladder climb is why you play arena. You may not lose your bank for a losing streak, but you do lose hard earned rating that will take some time to regain. Some people care about rating, some people care about isk, some both. But really, Isk, rating, what's the difference. Both take time to grind, both unpleasing to lose.
I can grind security missions all day in high sec and with a proper build and not being stupid I can do it all without losing ship until my hearts content. I can do it 99.9% of the time without having to worry about being attacked by another player also. If that .1% is forced pvp to you then you may be a little more paranoid then you should be.

No I strolled in and this game has been too casual, that is why I made the post. Making isk is a breeze, everything pve is a breeze, the game mechanics are incredibly simple to grasp and fight with in comparison to "twitchy" games. I do however get destroyed in pvp, that is true. I get destroyed because i know nothing of the game pvp wise after a month of play and little to no effort put into aside from a small amount of faction warfare. My intended question was, why get good at it. What is the reward in attaining the knowledge. Entertainment from raw game play isn't there, so it must be the small gang you run with and the politics of why you are fighting for what you are. At least that is the conclusion I came to after reading this thread.

I expect EvE players to be a tad more intelligent than the average WoW player, not a bunch of sour grapes who are so antisocial even WoW can't accept them.

"Arena jock"? Do you even understand how much w-o-r-k is required to have and maintain an arena rating in WoW? A lot harder than what these killmails show with 5 players facerolling pods. Roll

Instead of bad mouthing other games -- and it's players -- either put up or shut up (and please don't tell us you played WoW back in 2007...WoW's 10x harder today than then).

Did CCP give you free PLEX as some booster? It seems like the least they could do since you're giving them so much free publicity (and unlike Blizzard, CCP does pay players with ingame currency).

I'm no WoW fanboi (no one from WoW could claim that seriously, especially Blizzard! lol), but seeing remarks that are false, yeah, someone has to say "you're wrong" and by how much.

PvP with consequences. World that feels like a bizzarre cross of Road Warrior and a scifi movie.

EVE is more than the few buttons and a spreadsheet of [-]/[+] squares you shoot or not. It's the comms, the people and the metagame. Sure PvP is a blast especially when you get some experience in it, but doing it with a gang is even better. Chatting with the corporation leadership and planning your next move in this conflict, coming up with ship fittings after a patch, hunting for targets or just plain undocking and shooting each other outside of your headquarters. It's barely bearable solo but way better with a group.

Plus, those sudden "I was there" moments. I bet a lot of people have at least one.

In a 1v1 there's a big chance a rookie will die unless odds and his own knowledge (not the SP one) work in his favor. In a gang his role becomes more significant, the legendary "I will ruin your day" tackler comes to mind. You'd be surprised just how scary a T1 frigate becomes when you're in a big, slow battleship.

Also, the "grind" - the thing with it is you don't have to do it. There are ways to get rich without shooting NPCs and most of them are totally legit by GM standards. Reason? PvP isn't only shooting someone in the face, it's also stealing his assets and closing his corporation after infiltrating it.

So EVE and WoW cannot be compared, got it.
I've been fighting in a little border skirmish in a backwater region the inhabitants know as Fountain. The coalitions going head-to-head have roughly 65 300 combined members, so it's not really any big fights or any important skirmish. I have lost a few things, probably amounting to 500M all in all. Those ISK are annoying losses for me, but I get SRP so it's not about the ISK. For my alliance, again, it's not the ISK since we're more than solvent, but the lost fights for control, for political and strategic objectives, the morale impact from losses etc.
ISK losses can be the easiest to quantify and at the same time be utterly insignificant losses.

Ask freighter and jumpfreighter pilots if they agree.
Or gankers/wardeccers, for that matter.

You're one out of maybe ten thousand who each, individually, only get ganked every hundred day.
A single ganker might gank ten people a day.
The math then becomes really simple.

I've come to the conclusion that i suck in eve. After 7 years i finally concluded that. I'm bad at mining, at pvp, exploration, mission running.

I've also come to the conclusion that i'm quite good in the meta stuff. Offering services that are not in the game client per se.

There is so much stuff you can do that no tutorial teaches you and that pays an awful lot of money and that is by no means glitching or exploiting it turns also out to be the most fun (for me):

- Infiltration, Intel Brokering

- Sabotage

- Playing a "Clay Davis" type of Double Agent and cash in on both ends.

- Mess with Politics.

- Putting up legit services for people to use like websites, or programming skills, graphical treats.

- Putting up seemingly legit services - which are not. (look up the bank heist)

- Telling jokes, making people laugh - for ISK (after i've seen a standup comedian offering his services in Jita Local i've seen it all)

- Be creative for fucksake...

You have to find your place in eve or you will have a miserable time. That said...

All that circlejerk about the fast clicking and that you are on the top % in so many other games doesnt mean jack in here. The problem is, eve is not about fairness.... a juicy killboard.. everyone can fake that, you dont know how it came to be, besides there are almost never comparable fights. The killmailwhoring is another ugly face of eve. You just can't compare yourself to others.

The stories that emerge from it, they are the reason you should play. I personally believe that if you don't see the appeal in that you will have a bad time in eve.

Yes, Ace dear. I am going to say I played WoW for years, and I have said that before. I played it up until recently, in fact. I have the "Step Into the Arena" achievement but I was always more of an open-world pvp kind of girl, and that kind of pvp is now dead in WoW.

The arena community is skilled. Skilled at having super-fast reflexes, botting in BGs after every expansion or patch in order to get the gear they need faster, DDoSing their opponents, and whining on the forums about how Ghostcrawler hates them.

Not all arena jocks are that way to be sure; the small contingent in my old guild that used to arena was not. Those guys and girls were adults, though, and I absolutely cannot see them coming on to EVE's forums and arguing with a guy from Sniggwaffe that high-level pvp'rs in this game suck because they use the mouse to navigate th UI.

Arena pvp is the functional equivalent of a "caned hunt." Sure you can call yourself a hunter just because you walk on to some farmers enclosed field for you to shoot his tame specialized raised birds that he releases just for the occasion, but most folk who are serious about the art think you're a cheating, sleazebag. Even shooting pods is better then arena pvp - why? because they were found in the wild - the product of open world pvp. The skill in eve pvp does not necessarily come from the actual combat - rather it truly lies in the preparation, the hunt and most importantly, the actual decision to engage in combat. And where the meta game becomes involved then eve truly gets epic.

I don't play, I just fourm warrior.
