Full screen for seperate monitor/projector

Does anyone know if there is way to set the full screen setting on a seperate screen? I switch between using a seperate monitor and a home theater projector setup (which really enhances the experience with the surround sound). The problem is I can't seem to match up the screen resolution with the window so I want to try fullscreen on it. I have tried the keyboard shortcut along with the manual change in the settings menu but nothing happens. Is it possible without losing my laptop (should have mentioned that earlier)? It's a MacBook Pro 13" btw if that matters.

Make the external monitor your primary display - System Prefs > Displays > Arrangement > drag the menu bar to the other screen.

Eve does full screen on the Primary
