What about Galaxy Quest?

But yes, generally the word feels out of place in sci-fi settings. I just liked the movie. Blink

Neutral, the other 'N' word.

Yeah erm...that was the joke I didn't really use the word you're thinking of. Just putting that out there as EVE is my life and if I get banned I'll have to deep fry myself.

Not so, I have a wife, which means that at some point n time I have to have "gotten some" though for the life of me I can't remember it. Still, that means I must surely be sans virginity and thus ineligible to hold a nerd-card.

Dessie.

Nonono (even though I've said it before; hated myself as soon as I did) "dessie" is terrible.

Oh and I do think Jedis go on "quests".

And I'm pretty sure they "craft" their lightsabers, or "construct" as it were... but I don't think I've ever heard SW say "manufacture a lightsaber".

But they do have clans, and guilds also in SW.

*SW reference is in regards to the movies, not SWTOR or any other affiliated Lucas Arts game.

Deep fry...?

I almost want you to get banned now, just so I can read that news article.

"EVE Online player deep fries self after forum ban, news at 11!"

Toon - Are you Bugs Bunny, a Disney employee? Toon is a cute sounding word that is used by those who don't know any better. Character or even avatar is more of a word that fits into the harsh nature of the eve universe. Unless you want to imagine that you are Bucky O Hare.

Quest - Missions could be called 'quests' however quests are generally used by the fantasy game inclined. Mission is a better word for the sci-fi fantasy. You ever hear the word quest in Star Wars? The game Space Quest doesn't count.

Crafting - Crafting invokes images of using a whittling knife to create a figurine from an olive branch or something. Crafting is something that generally involves animal skins and primitive methods of creation. Eve is far from primitive and has factories and therefore industry is the correct word.

Who died and made you God, again?

I will call toons as toons. Quests = missions = quests. And crafting = Tradeskilling. Heck, corps are but guilds anyway, too.

Don't like it, lump it.

Minor quibble: Star Wars is not sci-fi, it is space fantasy.

Yes, there is a difference.

Your cross genre imbecilic inability to adapt to your surroundings is precisely what the OP was referring to.

Fear of a name increases the fear of the thing, or whatever that Harry Potter quote is. [Edit: I am sure, of course, that someone will jump in and correct me on that misquote, the Mrs. is the Potter fan, not me.

Any word that sounds even remotely intelligent, aluminium for example, even my spell-check is acting like a low iq baboon and tells me it's aluminum.

We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.
