What is the (actual, not lore) reason behind the 24hr Jump-Clone timer? I am assuming it is to reduce exploiting the system somehow, but why 24 hrs and not 12, 6 or 3?

edit: cause I can't spell Jump properly

They simply wanted to add a quick travel option and a way to keep your expensive implants safe, but didn't want people to use it as a regular way to travel, so some kind of cooldown was necessary. I suspect the precise number is somewhat arbitrary and is only what it is, because the mechanic hasn't been reviewed in years. It was also a time when we still had motherships with cloning bays, so they were envisioned to bring a new force deployment dynamic to the game.

I am using it as more of an Implant protection mechanic than a fast travel mechanic, but I can see how they would want to prevent abuse of for those reasons. Still, it seems like a 6 or 12 hr timer would accomplish the same thing. Too bad they don't add a skill that reduces the time.

24h is used in several instances across EvE.

One good reason is to remove issues with people playing in different TZ.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Personally im happy with 24 hour cool down after jumpcloning one side of galaxy to another. Think if you would have to travel that gate by gate every time P.

24 hour cool down after something that seriously cuts travel time is nothing. Heck if you live in nullsec you probably have jumpclone in highsec to make your shopping, skillbooks, etc... Instant travel avoiding all gatecamps, lowsec pirates....
