as others have said, since the NPC change, there's really no great AFK boat. Domi's are still good, but you have to be at the helm. also, they work great in pairs with remote reps, which can also be used to keep your sentrys alive w/o constantly retracting them.

Though you will typically find that once you start the RR the NPCs will completely ignore the vulnerable drones and attempt to break your massive tank instead. They're not particularly smart, those NPCs.

you can't run missions with 2 ships and have one tank the entire pocket anymore. The rats switch targets now, and if all ships you take can not tank the entire pocket you will lose the ship. Also rats love to shoot drones now.

keep track of your triggers and don't kill them until you are ready. Don't aggro entire pocket.

That is all.

CCP was bound to improve AI and reduce AFK easy mode from Mission 4s eventually. Welcome to the future!

Get him into an autocannon/afterburner Machariel. Instapop the small annoying stuff, orbit the Machariel with your Tengu and laugh as both speed tank the rest of the NPCs Smile

No, the character has up to medium spec Energy Turrets, as well as the Amarr cruiser/strategic cruiser. I have HACs as well, so was thinking Ishtar, but I dont have Gall Cruiser 5.

Take a look at the Gila, just needs Cal/Gall cruiser skills.

this is how I have my domi fit. 110km optimal with garde IIs, and should out dps most tengus. I'd probably drop one drone scope rig for a ccc as that will get it stable with the rep. with nightmare, machariel, or vindicator in the mission it doesn't get aggro often, and when it does everything dies so fast the tank is more than enough.

I have a few rattlesnakes that I use with MJDs and they work pretty damn well. most npcs can't even hit your drones. that said guristas are probably the hardest just because their missiles will hit you. I do use a target painter and auto targeting missiles and those seem to keep aggro reasonably well. heck most missions I can just sit there and not bother with the mjd.

im not sure how most of the people on here do it, but i use a mjd domi EVERY mission in gallente space. never once have to warp out, or ever go into armor. i guess its all on how you pilot it that makes you successfull.

The Assault versus Guristas is a very different mission to The Assault versus Serpentis. Note that in the Serpentis version you can skip the difficult combat and simply go to the second room without shooting anything.

you can skip all combat in the first room in the guristas version too, and that is how I do it every time.

Blitz

Pocket 1: Warp through the gate without killing anything.
Pocket 2: Aggro Group 3 (only) and eliminate ALL ships in Group 3. Warp out.

Both assaults are the same except the type of jamming. 2 SEBOs in a mach eliminate the dampening altogether. I am going to attempt the same in a RS but with 2 eccms and see if it nullifies the jamming.

I fly either a Machariel or a Rattlesnake and I use my repper Domi with a full compliment of drones. The trick is to target what is shooting at the Domi and/or Drones. Domi reps drones and Mach if needed. Mach armor reps the Domi in 2 min spurts.

If you fit it out right, and pay attention to rrepping duties while drones are "assist"ing the main, it goes really well. We devastate the field rapidly.

I'm not sure what your DPS is, but you need max dps which is easy with 5 sentries (Domi) and a main ship set up for MAXIMUM destruction.

Point being, the best defense is a good offense, when you use a Domi alt.

*** I'm at work so I can't post fits. If I think about in the morning, I'll post the Duo of Destruction (and repping).

The Dominix is far from a semi-AFK ship, and I dont get why people suggest it as such. Especially not as a second ship for mission running...

Some missions are harder to afk then others, but two remote rep sentry domi's does a okay job being semi-afk.

I would like to thank everyone for their input, but I think that I am just going to swap out ships depending on the mission. Blitz quick missions with the Tengu, and then do the Dominix and Osprey combo for the longer missions. My Tengu pilot has very limited drone skills, and only Caldari BS, and even then he doesnt have Cruise spec. The constant switching between two characters takes too much focus, and just isnt for me, it seems. With the Osprey repping, the Dominix can focus on just range and DPS, and I dont need think about either one getting toasted, other than my drones.

"The Assault,"

When you 1st warp in the 2nd group of ships 3 or 4 thoraxes and 2 frigates. Take them out 1st, 2nd take out the 4 battle ships. After that the dampening / ECM will not be as heavy and you can manage the incoming damage. One of my top 5 favorite missions.

I assume that this is not for the Gurista version. The ECM wasnt actually all that bad. I got locked down a few times, but I got my drones in motion, so it was, for the most part, only a minor inconvenience. The problem is the gigantic range on the cruise missiles. I was expecting the MJD to keep me range tanked, but this was clearly not the case, lol.

Anyway, the premise of the thread was not to complain about the Dominix, but to complain about people saying that you can semi-afk in it. Multiple people have stated that this is outdated information, and I accept that I was reading some stuff from 2012, as well as what people in local and a couple private channels were saying. Apparently this was true, but not anymore, and that makes my point quite moot.

Yea I run 4's over in Gallente space. So my information is for serpentis. As for AFK missioning personally that would be sorta slow if you can get around the drone aggro. Never AFK missioned either.

I assume that you found that WTS C5 Wormhole in an early post? This guy is my hauler/indy/salvager, which I bought like, 2-3 weeks ago.

Anyway, I am not talking about AFKing missions. I wanted to actively fly my Tengu, with the Dominix as extra DPS. It would be semi AFK in the sense that I would still be there, and look at it on my second screen, but would focus on my Tengu. (and watching TV) This was not the case, and I found myself with the Dominix on my main screen while the Tengu basically AFKed.

Not sure why they didnt just change drones to not auto-defend their owners. Would have taken care of the afk thing. As drones are at the moment - imagine if shooting at npcs caused the npcs to blow up your turrets or some crap. Micromanaging them is frustrating as hell.

I had a hammer II get instapopped yesterday. I had no aggro at all so I zoom out and see a whole bunch of firing at my drones from all ghe spawns. I pull drones in getting ready to warp out. Spawns sit there. Pop drones out. They start ganking my dtones again lol.

Crazy drone mechanics.

What does this tell us ?

CCP did their job very well with NPC KI, because they always stated ... they won't support AFK missioning or other 'afk get easy isk exploits'
And every ship with drones or without should have all you attentions during space travels !

Personally I think the new Dominix is outstanding - great dps at good range - but the sentry drones do require babysitting, especially if they are Federation Navy. They can take some shots if you need to visit the fridge, but better be quick :)
