Both will work for lvl 4s. Prefer the Raven personally to something specialized like a tech3 cruiser. Also Raven doesn't lose you skill points when it goes bang and would suffer less from bad support skills imo. Raven is more common, less expensive and less popular kill for pvpers compared to a tengu.

In the end both will do the job and reason why to pick one over the other are personal and depend on long term plans. I gave you my opinion now it is up to yourself to decide what is best for you. Eve is about decisions after all.

Raven then Raven Navy Issue or perhaps a Scorpion Navy Issue.

Tengu is alright, but it's tied to kinetic damage which isn't always the best choice.

Raven to buy, fit and put together 300-350mil top?
Tengu to buy, fit and put together 1 to 1.5 bil

If you are just coming onto level 4 missions the chances are you are going to lose some, and that means losing a ship.

Yes, people can probably solo a level 4 in a T3 cruiser, but I'll bet that they are vets with a shed load of skills. You won't have them, so go with agood solid BS anytime, you can do the T3 thing in the future when you have better skills and enough money to lose one without it hurting, too much.

Wtf are you talking about I used to use a tengu to do lv 4s only cost 400 mil t2 fitted nothing special cleared out lv4s no problem.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

you are pulling numbers out of thin air. the only real difference in cost will be in the hull (and subsystems), beyond that any "pimpage" will cost nearly the same for either ship. and a tengu is very hard to lose, as long as you keep your speed up your effective tank goes through the roof. just gotta watch out for ships that will web you and get them asap.

that said I'd still probably go with a raven. flying a tengu makes me fall asleep, and falling asleep in a tengu means wasting a lot of volleys/time. Raven just got an extra midslot and cruise missiles got a dps buff.

850m will get you a decent t2 rigged tengu with 4 faction bcu's in the lows

of course you can spend more .. 2-4b fits are possible, but I wouldn't recommend them as you will be viewed as an extremely attractive kill-mail, and you will be ganked

the tengu advantages
variable performance based on subsystems fitted
uses heavy missiles (same as the drake)
faster and more kitey than a BS
smaller signature and faster locking time than a BS

the Raven advantages
specialised
good drone bay for dealing with smaller/faster targets
cruise missiles deal more DPS than heavy missiles
can fit a micro jump drive
good tank

both are good choices, and tbh there's nothing stopping you from training both.
