For mining objects really far away and off grid I think you might need to use "drones" to mine it.

The module would look like a dome but when active roles back it's shell to reveal a honey comb like structure. The structure releases a swarm of tiny drones (just a visual effect) that disappear and reappear in flashes of white light as they wander off to mine and then return with materials.

I think it would be mostly used for mining the sun but it's fundamentally "long range mining" so it may have other uses.

Good? Bad? Ugly? Terrible?

Uhm... mining drones already exist.

It could make for some interesting ideas of using belts as places that spawn rogue drones hidden in roids that attack you .
Maybe a hazard in 0.0 and WH versions could have sleepers coming out.

T3's need to be versatile so no rigs are necessary ... they should not have OP dps and tank

ABC's should be T2, remove drone assist, separate HAM's and Torps range, -3 HS for droneboats

You do know what "The Sun" or more commonly referred to as "Stars" are made of right? What your looking at is a superheated ball of plasma held together by gravity. If you were to 'mine' it, the materials you would get would be worth far less than your average spacerock or moon would give.
