Siege the Mackinaw!

There have been a number of players delighting in using stabbers to derive into ice miners and bump them miles away from the ice. The speed differences are such that one stabber can pretty much end all possibility of mining anything in a system.

To the miners, this is horribly frustrating, because the person in the stabber does not get a criminal flag, does not get banned for harassment, and does not stop. Nor does flying their light ship into a stationary huge ship at high speeds damage the stabber.

So ... there are three choices.

1. People stop mining, and quit EVE. This has been a popular choice; many of the people I know who used to mine ice have simply ended their subs due to the Odyssey changes; they didn't like where EVE had gone, and voted with their credit cards.

2. Change the policy, so that deliberately ramming a player over and over (and over) without initiating pvp is defined as greifing. I would support that.

3. Add an ability for Mining Barges and Exhumers to go into siege mode, adding +50% defences and making the mining ship immobile for 5 minutes, as the vessel diverts all of its engine power into shields and gyrostabilizers.

(1) is not good, but is the logical consequence of CCP's poor design decisions and weak policies.
(2) I would support. Except that it's CCP, they say things like "orbit the asteroid at 500m" (which does not actually work).
(3) is a plausible option, because it does not rely on customer support to actually *do* anything.

Oh, and fix ice distributions. There is a Minmantar highsec system with 3 ice fields in it, and half a reigon in Ammantar space without any ice fields at all and no regulars better than omber (making it pointless for miners, and therefore pointless for pvpers, there being no miners to hunt). Put more random ice fields into lowsec at least.

Bad map => bad game, EVE still has an outdated bad map. Sad

Oh and remove the self destruct and leave corp buttons from the quick menu. Neither are things that should be done quickly, and one miss-click leads to a ton of CCP GM time used. Basic design mistakes, 10 year old game, still making basic mistakes.

1. Good riddance. Eve needs interacting, social players, not more people treating it like a single-player game.

2. There was already a long thread about bumping, you have plenty of options to avoid bumpers. There are thousands of systems you can go to. If they keep following you, it WILL be treated as grieving.

3. Sure, if the mining yield goes down by 75% while sieged to keep the Risk/Reward ratio in balance.

You seem to be unaware that you can still be bumped while in siege.

e: you also have zero evidence that mining has dropped since odyssey.

Chatting in channel is also a social activity. And quite a important one for certain miners.

I'll agree with you there, unfortunately most miners don't even do that, for example pre-odyssey, when the ice was infinite, you'd have the same people mining for hours without typing a word, because it involved actually being at the keyboard more than once in the time it took to fill the hold.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Did you notice that is what they have been doing for the past few years?

Seriously. You don't even need to scan ore sites any more, and there are no-pvp systems.

Remember: when you say "just quit eve" ... people do. And CCP keep spending a lot of real world money trying to get new players to try EVE ... and when those players quit, they revise the challenge level of the game down. Roll

Great, I hope they find a game that better suits their AFK, asocial playstyles. The rest of us are happy that as EVE enters its second decade, CCP is getting rid of crap that was much too macro-friendly like endless ice.

That is already the case.

Sure, just have it use a high slot, don't add high slots to the hulls and have it require a large amount of CPU.

Why add an ability? Ships have had the ability to weigh anchor since time out of mind. Add a low slot module that works the same as mechanic anchoring a GSC. Means like most things in the game the pilot is now faced with fitting choice; in this case balancing yield, tank or the ability to anchor. Plus like hardeners or sensors boosts, provides the option of a counter. All things well within existing game mantra.

Yes, a module to have that effect would be a superb addition. Call it a Gyrostabilizer? Big smile

Oh and to maintain wider game balance, they could be "able to be fitted to barges or exhumers only", if that is needed. After all, that coding already exists (for strip miners).

That's probably because there's not been any stats released by CCP looking into it....

I haven't even logged on in over 3 months due to last "Expansion" which actually seemed to suit the PvP nuts more than the "high sec miner carebear".

We already have gyrostabs. They make projectiles do more damage, which you would probably know if you had any ship other than a Mackinaw.

i cant tell you how happy it makes me to read all these "stop bumping me" tear threads.

just step back for a second and think about it....you are upset....cause somebody ran into your ship....and moved it....while you were afk....

do you realize how silly that sounds?

do you also realize that threads like this just make us wanna bump you more?
