Getting past 0.4 gates

Hi folks,

I thought I would pootle about the galaxy and have a look at some things and a few suggested going to the eve gate so that's where I headed.

However whenever I get to 0.4 space I get warp scrambled and pod killed by campers.

I am only in a shuttle or noob ship, I understand its fair enough, but if I am going to get grieved each time I leave 0.5 space there isn't much point in playing.

Am I missing something or do I just have to accept I need to remain in hi sec for the rest of my days due to players who get off on griefing noobs?

I have a fresh clone and a cheap ship so it's not like I am losing anything it's just bloody frustrating more than anything.

Forgive noob question but, MWD?

micro warp drive and cloak trick. Go google it, takes maybe a day at most to get the skills to perform it.

How do you manage to get pointed in a shuttle? What?

Also besides training Cloaking and using the abovementioned cloak/MWD trick to get past gate camps, you can also use your in-game map to be able make a decent guess as to whether or not there's a good chance of there being a camp up at the system you want to jump into.

Have the map open and the system selected, then in the browser window scroll down to "statistics" and there you can find all sorts of options like " number of pilots in space" "number of pods killed in the last hour" etc. if those numbers are high, then don't jump; try again another time.

Also if you do jump and you land into a camp, you are not necessarily done for. Especially if you have a microwarpdrive fitted and you're in a nice fast frigate, and they're in a bunch of big clunky ships, you can always try turning on your MWD or even your afterburner if that's all you have, and burn back to the gate and jump back through. They might still get you and they might not but you might as well try.

Are you going through the amdonen-ami gate? That gate is always camped. Try going around. The entrance to gademam from tadadan is usually very quiet. Just dont loiter when passing through ami. It is a hotbed of pirates in there. Once you get through say fensi it is a pretty quiet trip to the eve gate. Good luck.

That ami camp, although not nearly as pro as the amamake crowd, is pretty tight. It does depend on the time of day though. Early pacific time is the Tainted Dragons. They are blobbing bitches and generally bad at pvp but run a damn fine gate camp. Mid day will be the Zombie Bondage Goats. Good at pvp, fun to fight. They will post a man or 2 at each gate and follow things that look fun to kill or sometimes just ZOT nubs on the way through. Later on is the Rolemancers...russians...nuff said.
Edit for shameless plug: not often, just once in a blue moon, you will find the amdonen-ami gate camped by Hydra. If this is the case all hope is lost. Just pray that your clone is upgraded.

The trick OP, is to know your area. That makes camps, all of low sec really, easy stuff. If you don't know who you're dealing with then just check the map stats and go around.

have to ask this as well, even if the campers have remote sensor booster out the ass insta-lockers you can't get get caught in a shuttle unless you are loitering on the gates or are running eve on an Atari 520STFM

Good tips all round.

I got there in the end just took about 5 more jumps to get around, must have hit a common pinch point.

So can tick off eve gate as been to.

Also found out I need to look into mwd's and cloaks :-)

Every day is a learning day lol

It was the reason I took a cheap frigate with no fittings, if it went pop, no biggie but it left an issue for later in game, but I found once in o.3 space a lot of systems were empty.

How can you tell on battleclinic who killed me, I can only see my stats?

Really? Last time I had a problem with that particular gate was in...2006 and I live(d) over there! Guess I just log on around the right times then - that section of space is usually completely dead for me.

@OP regarding gate camps. There's really only a couple things you can do, in my preferred order:

1) Cloak (+MWD)
2) Warp to something you're already aligned to
3) Burn back to gate
4*) Kill them all

4 is generally not an option, especially if they have any sort of competence but it can be done. Especially if it's just a couple twerps in arty thrashers or something ridiculous. Against an organized gate camp you will die in a fire every time if you try #4.

The first option is the best, but it gimps your ship if you plan on PvPing (which it sounds like you don't) so go ahead and train up for that. Just realize that if anything comes within 2,000m of you you will decloak and then die in a fire, so if an inty is running toward you spam warp-to like mad - just because you're cloaked doesn't mean you're invincible!

Click on the "losses" tab.
Click one of your losses.

For bonus points, click on the guy(s) who killed you. Then explore a bit to find out who they fly with, what they fly, what they've lost, what they lost it to & tailor a plan for revenge.

Don't try that with the Rolmancer Fleet though. You will be running from Russians for the rest of your eve career. Unless, like me, you're cool with that. Most of my best fights are from enemies looking for revenge.

just to further advocate for the MWD+cloak trick

i just went through 8 jumps in heavily camped low sec (no less than 4 camps, 2 of them with legions most likely setup for instalock) in a tornado and got through with nobody so much as locking me.

If there are known gate camps, why don't people just take a mass group there and wreck them? I'm a noob so I don't really know how these things work, but I would think it would easy and fun to do.
