20 days is a long time to train into the top tier of frigate PvP/pve???

It seems like what you and some other new(ish) players are complaining about is actually what makes eve better than most MMOs. That is the simple fact that you can dabble in many fields easily(t1), but should you want to specialize(t2) you can do so if you train the proper skills.

Now when it comes to training time they have it set correctly, if you are bored of what your doing in your t1, it won't take long for you to be bored in your t2, so if you find a t1 ship/activity you enjoy doing, CONGRATS!, you just found what you won't mind training 20 days for and will feel like you have accomplished something once trainings complete rather than the hollow feeling of having it given to you.

At this point it is still something of an accomplishment to max your skills in a certain field/ship type and that is specifically because of the skill requirements in time and the isk to buy the ship/equip.

Please do not advocate for the dumbing down of a system so easy to specialize or try out new play styles in........

As a semi well seasoned vet (2005), I must say that while you do have a point, training skills today is much easier as you do not need to train learning skills anymore. However, the whole point about learning the game first before flying T2 is also moot. People's learning curve is not linear but skill progression is. Given that the game is 10 years old and most of its players have been playing a long time, any drastic change will either break this or cause a shitstorm among the continual subscribers. Now who does CCP value more? The noobs who might come and go who gets itchy and pony up the $$$ once in a while, or the people who cough it up every month.

In conclusion there is no easy way around this, IMO if you are new and starting out, you should install EVEMon, check how long it will take you to reach certain skill level to fly things you want. Also consider how much longer EVE will be an environment that is enjoyable to you. To me, that is until the next great sandbox MMO. I always wanted a more twitch based action type. But everything else about EVE more than makes up for that.

TL;DR: well there is none.

Fleets (or pilots) with smaller ships can win battles. The time you need to grasp this is the famous 'steep learning curve of eve' and is not related to sp.

To the OP...

Yes it can seem daunting when thinking you have people out there in Eve with so many years worth of skills trained. But you don't have to fly a BS, or Capital ship to do awesome things. With a modest amount of skills you can fly an Inty, and be very successful in some pretty awesome things. Also don't forget a Stealth Bomber. Tons of fun can be had flying in a group of those damn things. And they don't require too many skill points to fly them with a certain degree of success. The trick with those is just getting the mechanics down on how launching the bombs actually work without killing you or a bunch of your friends, lol.

Awesome doesn't have to come in a large package. A fleet of noobs in frigates roaming in low sec can be a nightmare to unsuspecting ratters.

That's the beauty of Eve Online, it's the biggest sandbox game out there. YOU are in complete control of how AWESOME you can be.

I think new players should be just as dangerous as old players. In real life even a six year old can fire a gun. Granted he may not have the aim and skills as someone who has used weapons longer but a gun is a gun and anyone with a gun should be a threat.

In Dayz, this is handled really well, both new players and those that have survived for weeks have the same chance at combat. A gun is a gun, and bullets don't care if you have 60 million skill points.

There should be the concept of a headshot, or some way for even a new player to get a kill on someone who has played the game for years.

we already have the same in Eve:
- 1 week suicide alt in Catalyst kills miners independent of SP amount
- 1 day old alt in rookie ship can prevent Freighter from logging-off until gang is ready to attack (see another thread)
- ...
