I think it's less about too much work at this point and more about it being totally impossible, since the code hasn't existed for a long time anymore and redoing it would be an act of insanity/colossal stupidity on CCP's part.

If CCP is at all professional about there software development practices they use some sort of version control software and branch the code at every release point. As a matter of fact I'm sure they do since point releases of one expansion occur while development of the next is underway.

It should be possible to deploy any expansion from since they started using version control software.

CCP have posted in similar past threads that it just isn't possible to return to the old code base, even on a test server.

I don't remember the exact reason given, but suspect it has to do with the supporting infrastructure required.

If it wasnt huge trouble, depending entirely on CCP care level, their code and versions and whatever other may cost to setup, it would be super cool to make a weekend of it one day.

Yes it wasnt very balanced overall back then, but it had a raw savageness thats been diluted, mostly for the greater good to what we have now.

Im not sure if it was "better" but certain things were certainly more fun!

I'd like to see this mostly for the response of the old bitter vets when their rose-tinted specs crash headlong into reality and they exclaim "Whatever were we thinking? This is awful!"
