See and Pee,

I've been doing some ninja salvaging/looting for a while and want to move onto something bigger. I have some questions:

  • Have you had any luck baiting mission runners into going suspect, or even Concordokken'd? I've tried targetting them and using a festival launcher but nobody has been dumb enough to take the bait yet.
  • What about baiting them with a jet can of your own?

  • No luck baiting? What about making the carebear go flashy green by you going suspect first ?
  • If a remote repair comes in to aid me (the suspect), he goes suspect too right? Does he get limited engagement with the carebear too?
  • If I'm suspect, and the carebear initiates a limited engagement with me, I can't have tackle/backup warp in can I? Is there any way for a friend to get in on the same limited engagement as me? As far as I know, being in a fleet or even corp doesn't help when I'm the one to go suspect first...

  • Yes. No.

  • No. Yes, if the target shoots the friend. Yes.

  • I never have, but... we had a dedicated Pirate in our Alliance that would kill mission runner in other Crops/Alliances that.... "deserved it". He told me that his method was to steal their loot in a ship that looked so inferior that the Mission Runner couldn't resist. He conned them into believing they had a sure kill, while all the time they were the ones most likely to die.
Second hand knowledge... take it for what it is worth.

How on earth did you make it to that assumption? I'm just trying to get into Hisec piracy and just making sure I don't get CONCORD'd...

Yeah I figured this. Unfortunately I've found it difficult to get carebears to shoot me even in a frigate, and a frigate won't cut it with my skills...

It's an old can-baiting trick, actually. Flip their can/wreck in a rookie ship, or some cheap frigate, get shot (and sometimes pop, but hey, its free/cheap), then come back in a OMGWTFPWNZor boat and have your nefarious way with them. 'Neutral' logi alt optional , of course.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

No way to ensure they don't warp off in the meantime though is there? It's why I asked the questions in my OP. Unless I'm missing something?

I've got a few people to shoot me in highsec anomalies by running them suspect and stealing continually from 'their' wrecks while shooting my own wrecks.

Problem is, when I've gone to ransom their pods, I've checked the character age and usually they are super, super new. So I unscram their pods and let them go with some advice.

Might be worth trying that in scanned down L4s. Anyone running an L4 has played long enough that you don't need to show any mercy.

Yeah, I've done the same a few times. I usually convo ultra newby victims and if they have a good attitude they generally get a windfall.

You don't even need to change ship or bring in logistics half the time. Carebear mission ships typically can't deal with a PVP fit t1 frigate.

Depends on drones. Someone that double webs your frigate and sets five Hammerhead 2s onto you will crush your frigate.

For bonus style points have an orca alt warp in once he took the bait and switch to the bc he's carrying on grid. They can carry your probing and bait ships too and make for a nice mobile base (though not exactly cheap isk&skill wise).

I hear tell, but haven't tried it myself, that you can chain duel invites.
Have a gang trying to bait missioners all over the aystem. If one bites, the suspect sends a duel invite to a gang member who sends one to the next member and so on. Now you all have the limited engagement.
This is also second hand knowledge so take it for what it is worth and please do let us know if it works out.

Also, +1 internets for the mobile crime lab orca! Thats f'n hot

I am not sure it is worth it, but... as a L4 mission runner myself I can say that there are a few mission that require you to collect an item: data sheets, virus, militants, etc. If you can identify the mission and grab those items you may be able to start a fight. Taunting in local or private message after you have them might do the trick.

That is a lot of work though.
