Screen goes black when accessing settings menu

Whenever I hit escape to open the settings menu, my screen fades to black entirely and I can't see the menu anymore. Any ideas why this could be happening?

I would try to repair the client, it sounds broke.

Which graphic card are you using?

Did you change your settings to cause this problem? Did it used to work for you?

Repairing the client did not resolve. I'm using a Radeon 7800 series, don't recall offhand which one, and confirmed I'm on the latest driver.

No settings changes resolve, and on this computer it has never worked.
