ATI drivers have been making me rageface for years. Recent ones are a little better but not by much.

I just recently upgraded to a 560 ti myself, and although it handles 99% of things easily, it did chug a little with top line games at max detail.

Until of course I fired in my OLD 8800gt in PHYSX mode. Everything now flies along at max settings and decent framerates.

My advice, pricewise, would be to get a 560ti and a cheap 88xx or 98xx series card - which are almost pennies now - and use the older card for physX. Saves a lot of money over SLI'ing a pair of 560's or a single high end ATI card.

I hear you on the drivers. As much as I would like to say, hey ATi is all good now, it isn't. I haven't used Nvidia since GTX 200 something or other in 2001. But every single Ati I have owned has been a case of 'its a lot cheaper than Nvidia, but that means loads of games don't run right or need heavy tweaking to get round issues'.

I still sucker for that **** every time without fail .. and the rage ensues ..

Wait until December the 6th, the new line of AMD Radeon 7000s will be released. Depends what they do to the price of the current Radeon cards, you might be able to pick up a 6870 much cheaper or even grab something like a 6900 series for the same price the 6800s are at the moment.

It might also make sense to pick up a 7000 as well if the prices are right, NV will soon get their line of cards out once the AMD ones hit the market.

also, Sandy Bridge E is coming. The mobo makers are tripping over themselves to put out some crazy looking boards. I am betting that when x79 comes out, those Z68 boards and chips are going to go down signifigantly. Some graphics card + mobo + chip bundleing may be in order

I have a Sapphire HD 6870; best card I have ever owned, very arguably. No issues whatsoever (only issues because BF3 is glitchy as ****, all other games are fine). It runs extremely cool (60 degrees celsius under a full load and not a very aggressive fan speed) and handles everything I throw at it with ease. Will continue to recommend ATI cards over Nvidia until I have an issue with ATI.
