How many years will it be until CCP starts developing EVE again (if ever)?

Could you answer the WiS question please OP?

Speaking of EVE addicts it is clear now that people defending CCP not developing EVE just don't want their drug to change. Also, they can't allow themselves to wonder what happens if and when CCP closes it's doors due to imprudence.

You're just trying to derail the thread. It is a common tactic of goon alts / hangers on. Don't think we all don't know

EDIT: Ramona McCandless ignored for troll 0/10 contribute or biomass pls thx

The game goes away and people find something else to play.

Confusion is a symptom of Toxic Shock Syndrome, OP. You're supposed to change those things more than once per month.

They've reconfigured all the tech 1 ships at this point, through battleship. They've redistributed moon goo and minerals and set off a huge player war in null sec. They are bringing Dust into the Eve universe, so the two games can interact in a way that nobody has ever tried before. If they succeed we will have a whole range of options for conflict involving planets as well as fleets in space. The FREE expansions that you get aren't supposed to be full of new maps and quests and elves and orcs and treasure. And developing Dust is the future of Eve in more ways than one.

This community must be a real joy to develop a game for. No matter what the devs do, people on the forums whine and moan at the same pitch. When all they hear is this kind of vacuous complaining, is it any wonder they want to tune out the playerbase whenever they can?

Hello

So for the past couple years we have seen extremely mild (almost unnecessary) tweaking and polishing of stuff already in the game. We recently got a new launcher and undock button, a few ships were tweaked here and there. But for the most part CCP has been spending all it's resources on developing DUST as a game.

That's nice. A lot of EVE players who love PS3 defend this decision and it's ok. But nothing exciting is happening with EVE. Now even more resources are going over to DUST and I figure it will be 2 more years before that's over.

But wait!

Then there is WoD, after DUST CCP says they're going to be focusing on yet another game. So if this takes 4-5 years like DUST that means we won't be seeing anything new and exciting in EVE for 7 more years.

When will EVE advance as a game? When will gameplay DEVELOP... this does not mean splashing glitter on the UI. For the purpose of this discussion let's not call that "development"

Bolded the funny slash ironic parts.

Dusts main problem and the reason why its getting hammered in the press and blogs is because its not getting nearly enough development. Its bare bones in the extreme and that makes it boring, of limited replayability of passing interest etc. And with CCP refusing to put stuff in that will draw other gamers, like crafting. They are shooting themselves in the foot. IMHO.

Maybe the reason it appears to be bare bones isn't because of lack of resources (I really doubt that). Maybe it's because CCP had no idea how to make an FPS, then they did a bunch of work they apparently had to scrap for a new engine? or something. PS3 architecture, something, something. (Ironic part being they made this same mistake for WiS/Incarna and clearly didn't learn from it)

You don't fire up development on a decades-old product. They will create something new before they pour another round of legitimate development into EVE.

All industries work this way; but especially software. You get what you can out of your current line-up, but at some point everyone benefits by making a leap forward onto a new platform that can take advantage of new technologies, new paradigms and incorporate lessons learned from the first generation.

In this case, CCP has had over 10 years with an amazing product to learn and prepare for their next offering. Expect something awesome within the next several years, but do NOT expect development on EVE to start up again in earnest. It simply doesn't make sense financially or technologically.

1: Harry Forever used this EXACT phrase when he couldn't answer my question before

2: PepsiMax ALSO used this exact phrase

3: How does one contribute if one is blocked?

Also if by Goon Hanger On he means people that don't like TEST, he's got me there

I understand your point but I think it does make sense to expand on EVE if CCP shows a further inability to expand into new markets.

It's made sense for the last 10 years, they aren't planning on changing that. In fact, DUST is based on the same concept of continuous iteration... which is unique for a console game.

I still have my theory about who this OP/Pepsi/Harry is

But

Id need proper evidence before I went public with it

Its too easy an accusation to make

And I don't want to accidently summon the person by uttering their name in vain

EVE will develop when CCP finishes fixing the backlog of issues they ignored for close to a decade. Ignoring fixes and focusing on shiny new features is exactly why they have to spend so much time now fixing stuff.

In the long term, they will hopefully have a balance between new features and iterating on existing features to make sure they keep up with the times.

What is it with you and your fascination with logic, Kahega? Didn't we just hold an intervention?
