I have been messing around with exploring in lowsec, I have lost two exploration ship so far and have been chased and hunted down quite a few times, my gains have been higher then my loses and the cat and mouse chase can be fun.

It looks like the only other exploration ship is covert ops, is that a good way to go? The loses would be much more expansive if I did that or can I or should I use other ships for exploration like a destroyer? Thinking if they warp in they would be a little surprised to have that many guns pointed at them, or would it be better to fit the exploration ships as defensively as possible? Mostly warp core stabs and such? Not sure if get the heck out or stay and fight is the best option here?

CovOps is the best way to go. You wont die unless you fail or a Stealth bomber has pre scanned down the site. It also has the bonuses for hacking and scanning...Using a destroyer is kinda pointess.

Nobody will ever be surprised by that - you always dscan first to know what to expect.

Learn to use the dscanner yourself, it's the most important thing to know in low-sec. You have plenty of time to run if you see people coming from 2 billion km away.
