Wormhole EOL on one side but not the other

I was sitting in a C2 off our static just now, on the C2 side it was EOL so I mentioned on TS "C2c is EOL" "No it's not I'm on the other side, you must be at another wormhole" came the response from a corp mate. I checked on my other character which was sitting on the other side and sure enough it wasn't showing EOL. Until I jumped through that is, when it instantly went EOL on the side in our static like when a wormhole mass reduces when you jump through.

Is this a usual mechanic, a wormhole being able to show different lifespan statuses on each side? Certainly nothing I've come across before, perhaps just timing related though.

if you think thats ******, wait till you jump through a wh @ EOL. You get a timer about jump control. total bs.

Far as I'm aware, the info won't update for you until you leave the grid, or someone else enters the grid. Show Info isn't enough for the WH to update the info, because :CCP:.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

By the way, same for mass reductions where crit or below 50 doesn't show on both sides. It doesn't happen often, but can be vital. I am not sure whether it never updates if you stay on grid: from my experience/perception, it just happens at random...

It's fairly common. I've also left/entered grid and it was still different from the other side.

My speculative explanation is that states are only updated when some process runs on the server, and so there can be a delay where one system still shows the hole as fresh when the other system has already changed its state to end of life. Presumably the wormhole object is a separate entity on each side. I've never seen this disparity persist for more than ~10 minutes.

It's really quite useful; if you find a new hole like this, you know it only just turned EoL and you still have 4 hours left to use it. One of those technical glitches that give the experienced w-space explorer a little edge.
